WhatsApp is testing a new Message Reminders feature to help users reply on time, along with proactive nudges for unread messages. Here’s how it works.
WhatsApp is finally working on a feature that almost every user has wanted for ages: Message Reminders. It’s the perfect tool for those who promise to reply to a message later, but completely forget about it moments afterward.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users will soon be able to set reminders for specific messages instead of relying on pinned chats or starred messages. Once available, users can attach a real-time notification to a received message, nudging them at just the right time.
Here’s how Message Reminders will work:
Once a reminder is attached, a small bell icon will appear next to the message, making it stand out in the chat thread.
When the reminder timer ends, you’ll receive a WhatsApp notification with a “🔔Reminder” tag, including the message content, chat name, and even a media preview (if applicable)—just like any regular alert.
In addition to Message Reminders, WhatsApp is also testing a proactive nudge feature. WhatsApp has been steadily rolling out user-focused features lately, including the new Questions feature for Channels on iOS, which encourages more interactive engagement.
Proactive Nudges are designed to occasionally notify you about unread messages from your most frequent contacts. The feature will be especially helpful when you’re juggling multiple conversations and might miss an important message.
As with all beta features, there’s no official launch date yet. The feature is currently being tested in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, with no official word on an iOS release. We’ll keep an eye out and update you as soon as it becomes more widely available.
