How to Customize Photos App on iPhone

Customize the Photos app on your iPhone to create, reorder, and hide collections so you can organize photos your way.

Key Takeaways:

  • Photos layout changes in iOS 26: Apple restores the classic tabbed Photos layout after feedback, replacing the system-first Collections view from the earlier redesign.
  • Reorder your Collections: In iOS 26 Photos, open Collections, tap Edit, drag to reorder albums and sections, shaping navigation around the views you use most.
  • Hide People & Pets: In People & Pets, select a person or group, choose Hide, or create groups to declutter For You and Memories.
  • Pin what matters: Customize Pinned Collections by adding or removing albums in Edit within Collections, keeping access to favorites like Recents, Screenshots, or Shared Library.
  • Precautions and limits: Featured Photos curation is local; removing items only alters surfacing. People hiding is reversible. Options vary by build, region, or iCloud sync.

The Photos app received a major redesign in iOS 18, featuring a unified scrollable interface that replaces the previous tabs-based structure. However, the change failed to resonate with users worldwide. With iOS 26, Apple heeded users’ feedback and brought back the old tab-based structure but with a modern twist.

The redesign separates the Photo Library and Collections into two different tabs. However, not every user may prefer the placement of elements in the Collections tab. Fortunately, Apple allows you to customize the Collections tab’s default view in the Photos app, making it more intuitive for your needs. Keep reading to learn how to customize the Photos app on your iPhone in iOS 26.
