With the advent of Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 3, titled Runners, sprites received a big overhaul. From previously being the key to unlocking Epic-tier loot in Chapter 6 to now becoming a back bling-like item providing gameplay boosts, sprites are currently a more important part of this wildly popular game than ever before.
Besides changing their function in the new update, Fortnite devs have also introduced some new types of sprites along with their unique variants. Each of these sprites offers something different in terms of gameplay, making it pivotal to consider which sprite to equip during a match and when. Additionally, these can even be upgraded by performing certain in-game actions to boost the effect of their abilities.
During a match, Fortnite players can store up to 5 different sprites in the inventory and equip any one at a time to activate its ability. The following list contains all the sprite types, variants, and their associated abilities in Fortnite Runners.

- Gold: Gives additional XP for eliminations.
- Gummy: Gives 10% more Sprite Dust when a Sprite is extracted.
- Holofoil: Boosts the team’s chances of finding rare sprites from containers by 30%.
- Gem: Fall damage is reduced by 30%.
- Galaxy: Gives 20% bonus ammo whenever.
Wrapping up
As the season has progressed, Epic Games has been hard at work to expand the current lineup of variants. As per the official schedule, a new sprite or a special variant is introduced in the game each Thursday.
Keeping that in mind, players can expect to find even more variants than those mentioned above during the latter stages of the Runners’ season. Such consistent sprite updates certainly incorporate a lot of fresh fun into the multiplayer game, in particular for those who are invested in finding new sprites and extracting them.
