Here’s a glimpse of all the specs that we know so far, as well as those rumored and leaked by multiple sources. As mentioned, these are not officially confirmed by Apple yet.
If you’re planning to skip the new iPhone 17 Air or Pro models and just want the regular iPhone, this year’s iPhone 17 might finally give you a reason to upgrade. It’s not a drastic overhaul, but Apple’s slowly chipping away at the gaps between base and Pro — and this time, it actually shows.
Let’s break down what’s coming, what’s changing, and why it might be worth the wait.

Yes, you read that right. Apple is finally bringing the smooth 120Hz refresh rate to the regular iPhone 17. If you’ve been sticking with the Pro models just for the ProMotion display like I have, this time we can finally go with the base model and still enjoy the same smooth experience.
That said, some reports mention it might not use an LTPO panel like the Pro versions. What does that mean? Basically, the refresh rate won’t adjust based on what you’re doing—it’ll stay at 120Hz all the time. So while it’ll feel just as smooth, it might use up a bit more battery compared to the adaptive Pro models.
The display is also getting slightly bigger. It’s going from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16 to 6.3 inches. Doesn’t sound like much, but it brings it on par with the 16 Pro’s screen and new bezels are thinner than ever.
And since it’s using Samsung’s latest M14 OLED panel, it should also be brighter and more efficient. Always-On Display might be in the cards as well, but we haven’t seen solid confirmation yet.
At first glance, the iPhone 17 looks almost the same as the 16. Vertical dual cameras, Dynamic Island, same aluminum and glass sandwich. But there are some subtle tweaks — Apple’s said to be using a new splicing method that gives the edges a more seamless finish.
The button layout might change too. Rumors suggest Apple will merge the Action button and volume controls on one side, leaving just three buttons total. And yes, the camera control button from the 16 returns — great for those who actually shoot with the native camera app.
Other models in the lineup are changing in a big way this year. The Pro models now look noticeably different, and the Plus model? That’s gone. Apple replaced it with a super-thin new version called the iPhone Air.
This one’s still a bit murky. Some say the iPhone 17 will get the new A19 chip. Others claim Apple might reuse the A18 from the iPhone 16.
Also, we are still looking at 8GB RAM, same as last year. While it’s good enough for most users, this is the aspect where iPhone model lack behind other models in the lineup which are rumored to have A19 Pros and 12GB of RAM.
If the A19 does make it in, expect better battery life and future-proofing for Apple Intelligence features (even if they don’t show up in full just yet).
The rear camera setup is expected to stay the same: a 48MP main sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide. If you’ve used an iPhone 16, you already know that combo delivers solid photos.
But here’s what’s changing — the front camera. Apple is finally bumping it up from 12MP to 24MP, with a better 6-element lens. That means clearer selfies, more detail in video calls, and more room to crop in without losing quality. It’s a small shift on paper, but for people who live on FaceTime or Instagram, it’s a noticeable one.
The battery isn’t getting a huge boost — it’s going from 3,561 mAh in the iPhone 16 to roughly 3,600 mAh in the iPhone 17. Basically, we can expect the almost the same battery capacity as the previous model.
However, we can place all our hopes on optimization and efficiency. Apple is using stacked battery tech here, which helps with energy density.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus use a type of adhesive that can be loosened with a low-voltage electrical current, making removing the battery easier. They are continuing with the same tech here too and even expanding to the pro models this year.
Charging is expected to stay at 35W wired, and 25W wireless via Qi 2.2. That’s not a leap over the 16, but the new wireless spec might offer better compatibility and faster speeds with third-party chargers.
This year’s iPhone 17 won’t go wild with colors, but there’s one new shade that stands out — a soft purple that looks pretty subtle and clean. It joins the usual options like black, white, gray, light blue, and green.
This year’s iPhone 17 will include Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 chips. That means better power management and tighter integration. The 5G modem, however, will likely still be made by Qualcomm — unless Apple decides to sneak its C1 chip into certain markets.
One important thing: Apple is expected to drop the SIM tray in more countries. So if you’re traveling often or switching carriers a lot, get ready to live the eSIM life full-time.
The release window should feel familiar — Apple’s targeting a launch event in early September, with shipping starting mid-to-late that month.
As for pricing? The iPhone 16 launched at $799. But with rising tariffs and production costs, don’t be surprised if the iPhone 17 starts closer to $849 or even $899 in some regions.
So is the iPhone 17 a must-upgrade? If you’re still holding onto an iPhone 14 or older, absolutely. The smoother display, upgraded front camera, and refined design make this a well-rounded refresh. Even if you have an iPhone 16, the jump to ProMotion alone could be tempting.
This isn’t the flashiest iPhone launch — and it doesn’t have to be. Apple’s not reinventing the base model, but features we loved in the Pro models are making an appearance here.
This timeline provides a clear view of how leaks have evolved over time. These leaks are listed in reverse-chronological (descending) order, with the newest at the top and older ones at the bottom.
Note: These leaks can sometimes contain contradictory information, as different sources claim different things. We can only be certain once the device is officially released to the public.
