WhatsApp for iOS is Getting a New “Questions” Feature for Channels

WhatsApp is rolling out a new "Questions" feature for Channels on iOS, enabling admins to ask open-ended questions and collect private responses from followers to enhance engagement and feedback.

After introducing polls in Channels, WhatsApp is taking two-way communication to the next level. According to WABetaInfo, the latest iOS beta via TestFlight reveals that WhatsApp is testing a new “Questions” feature for Channels, giving admins a powerful tool to gather insights and engage more directly with their followers.

What Is the “Questions” Feature in WhatsApp Channels and How Does It Work?

The Questions feature is designed to help channel admins interact more personally with their followers. Instead of using preset answers like polls, admins can now post open-ended questions via the chat attachment menu.

Followers who see the update can respond with their own custom text answers. Unlike polls that offer limited options, this feature gives followers more freedom to express their thoughts, enhancing the depth of feedback.

Notably, responses are visible only to channel admins, ensuring privacy and encouraging honest feedback from users.

Admin Tools: How to View and Manage Responses

All responses to a question are grouped directly under the update, making it simple for admins to review and manage them in one place, similar to the upcoming Threaded Replies feature. Admins just need to tap on the specific question update to access all responses.

Importantly, other followers cannot see or interact with these answers, maintaining a private, one-way communication flow.

If the admin deletes the question post, all related responses are automatically erased, reinforcing WhatsApp’s commitment to user control and data privacy.

Why WhatsApp’s New Questions Feature Matters

At first glance, this feature may seem minor, but it opens the door for meaningful, targeted engagement on WhatsApp Channels. Here’s how admins can use it:

  • Content planning: Ask your audience what type of content they want more of.
  • Feedback collection: Learn what your followers enjoy or want changed.
  • Event coordination: Gauge interest or availability for live sessions or community events.
  • Community engagement: Start thoughtful conversations with open-ended questions.

For example, a local news channel might ask: “What issues are most important to your neighborhood?”—allowing the admin to tailor updates more precisely to community concerns.

Building Better Conversations on WhatsApp Channels

The upcoming Questions feature promises to enhance personalized communication between admins and their audiences. By making Channels more interactive, WhatsApp continues its shift from one-way broadcasting to two-way conversations.

Whether you’re a content creator, brand, or community leader, this tool gives you more flexibility to connect with your audience in a meaningful way.
