It’s worth noting that while some skins, such as the Red Knight skin, routinely go up for grabs in the Item Shop, others, like The Ace skin, haven’t been added back in a long time, making them rare and hence valuable. In the list below, we will go through the rarest Fortnite skins in history and how players got access to them in the first place.

10 rarest skins in Fortnite history
1. Black Knight
Being a skin of “Legendary” rarity, Black Knight’s sinister armored look was a Battle Pass reward in the early years of Fortnite. It was unlocked by players after reaching the 70th Battle Pass tier—the maximum possible tier in those days—in Chapter 1 Season 2, which took place from December 2017 to February 2018. This item has never made a comeback in the game in any form since then, consolidating its rare ownership.
2. Indigo Kuno
Indigo Kuno is a PlayStation-exclusive cosmetic that rolled out in December 2020 (Chapter 2 Season 5). It is an “Epic” rarity item that was earned by about 6,000 players across PS5 and PS4 by securing a high rank in the Generations Cup battle royale tournament. This skin was paired with the Indigo Kama back bling as a reward for that set of players. As a matter of fact, both these items are extremely rare at present. The Indigo Kuno skin carries heavy influence from the Kuno skin that came out in March 2019 (Chapter 1 Season 8).
3. World Warrior
World Warrior may only be an “Uncommon” rarity skin on the surface, but it is actually much rarer than that because of the very short window it was available for. It was an exclusive item launched to mark the Fortnite World Cup weekend in July 2019 (Chapter 1 Season 9) and was purchasable strictly for just one weekend. While it was live, it was going for 800 V-Bucks and was also part of the World Cup 2019 set (priced at 1,300 V-Bucks) in the Item Shop. Today, it is owned by only a limited pool of longtime Fortnite players who were active in the early years of the game.
4. Reflex
Initially launched as an exclusive item for Nvidia customers in November 2018 (Chapter 1 Season 7), Reflex is a “Rare” skin that is part of the Counterattack set. It was primarily available to those who purchased select Nvidia GeForce GPUs and was included in the GeForce Fortnite Bundle 1. However, later in March 2019 (Chapter 1 Season 8), it went live on the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks for a very brief period. Since it was mainly obtainable through the partner promotion and was part of the in-game store for only a day, it is now among the rarest sights in the game.
5. Galaxy
This was a promotional skin, of “Epic” rarity, that came out of a partnership with Samsung in August 2018 (Chapter 1 Season 5). It was part of the Galaxy set, which players could get their hands on after purchasing certain eligible Samsung devices. Other items in this set included the Stellar pickaxe, Galactic Disc backpack, and Discovery glider. Since the code for unlocking these items was only available with the smartphone giant’s select high-end products for a limited period, it is among the rarest skins in the game today.
6. Honor Guard
In February 2019 (Chapter 1 Season 7), Fortnite and Huawei came together to offer an exclusive skin for buyers of the Honor View20. The Honor Guard skin is of “Epic” rarity and, due to its nature of being bundled with another product, is currently owned by a limited set of players. Moreover, its design is apparently derived from the Overtaker skin introduced in August 2018.
7. The Reaper
With strong John Wick vibes all across, The Reaper is a “Legendary” Fortnite skin that came out in February 2018 (Chapter 1 Season 3). It was a Battle Pass reward for those players who successfully reached Tier 100, which was the highest tier back then. This suave cosmetic item was included in the Hired Gun Set, which also packed the Trusty No. 2 pickaxe and the High Octane glider. Interestingly, both additional items in this pack sported design choices that were nods to the Keanu Reeves-starrer film franchise.
8. Rogue Agent
Rogue Agent is an “Epic” rarity skin that originally rolled out in March 2018 (Chapter 1 Season 3) and could be purchased as part of the Rogue Agent Starter Pack. Alongside the tactical black outfit, this bundle also contained the Catalyst back bling. This skin was also individually available to buy in the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks. The last time it was up for grabs was in September 2018, almost eight years ago, making Rogue Agent one of the rarest items in Fortnite.
9. Double Helix
This “Epic” rarity skin stemmed from a collaboration with Nintendo for a special Switch Double Helix Bundle worth $299.99. The hybrid console was paired with a code for the Double Helix set, which consisted of the Double Helix skin, Telemetry back bling, Pinpoint pickaxe, Rotor glider, and 1,000 V-Bucks. This promotional offer first went live in October 2018, during Chapter 1 Season 6, and was never released in the Item Shop—cementing Double Helix’s place among the rarest Fortnite skins in history.
10. Travis Scott
Back in April 2020, Fortnite and Travis Scott teamed up for the latter’s in-game concert named Astronomical. The musical event was a huge draw for fans and boasted a total of 12.3 million concurrent players, marking one of the biggest events ever to take place in the multiplayer game. For the Astronomical concert, a range of themed cosmetics, including Travis Scott and Astro Jack skins, were added to the mix.
Both skins are part of the Icon Series and were introduced in April 2020 (Chapter 2 Season 2). While the Travis Scott skin went for 1,500 V-Bucks in the store, Astro Jack was priced at 2,000 V-Bucks. These two items were also part of the Astronomical bundle and the Travis Scott set. Neither of these skins has returned in the game since their original run over six years ago.
