Gliders are one of the most basic pieces of equipment available in Fortnite. Besides allowing you to navigate your way mid-air to a particular spot on the map, these things can also act as an outlet for your style very early on during a match when you unfurl it near other players, also descending from the sky, in modes such as Battle Royale.
Apart from the default glider, several others can be obtained through a few different ways in the live-service game. These methods range from unlocking gliders by completing certain event objectives to outright purchasing them from the Item Shop using V-Bucks.
Different types of gliders in Fortnite
Over the course of several years, a plethora of unique gliders have been released in Fortnite. And, a sizable chunk of them were introduced in the game as part of a bigger collaboration with popular IPs, such as Marvel and Star Wars. Some examples of gliders born out of such tie-ups include the Silver Surfer’s Surfboard and the Millennium Falcon.
While most gliders have the same standard animation, a limited number of gliders come with their own unique animation. For instance, the Magnetic Steps glider triggers an action that makes your in-game avatar descend down improvised stairs instead of gliding downwards.
Rarest Fortnite gliders in 2026
Over the past several years, plenty of gliders have hit Fortnite, with some of them eventually leaving to never return. The following is a list of such gliders that have the lowest ownership across the board and hence are among the rarest gliders in the multiplayer game.
1. Mako
This glider’s “Uncommon” rarity actually does a disservice to its real-world status, where it is rarer than even those gliders that have “Mythic” rarity in-game. The Mako glider sports a motif inspired by the Mako shark and was one of the first special gliders added to the game. It was available during Chapter 1 Season 1 and was unlocked by reaching Level 25 during that season.
Courtesy of an accidental listing, it briefly returned to Fortnite via the Item Shop in January 2018, selling for 500 V-Bucks, but was quickly taken down due to fan backlash. And, it hasn’t made an appearance like that since then.
2. Discovery
The starry-looking Discovery glider was born out of a promotion with Samsung and was part of a wider collection, called the Galaxy Set, which also included a themed skin, back bling, pickaxe, and more. It was launched in November 2018, during Chapter 1 Season 6, and was only redeemable by those players who purchased select Samsung devices. Since the devices in question were high-end and expensive, not a lot of players bought them, making the Discovery glider among the rarest in the game.
3. Beast Brella
Emblazoned with eye-catching branding and colors sourced from the logo of popular YouTube personality MrBeast, the Beast Brella came out in December 2022 (Chapter 4 Season 1) as part of the MrBeast Set in the game’s Icon Series. As is obvious, it is an umbrella-type glider, which was awarded to those players who placed in the top 100,000 in the limited-time Fortnite event titled MrBeast’s Extreme Survival Challenge.
4. Slipstream
A glider of “Epic” rarity, Slipstream is extremely rare because it was available only for a few months between February and May in 2018 (during Season 3). Since it was an exclusive item in the Twitch Prime Pack #1, players who wanted to redeem this urban camo-style glider had to have an active Twitch Prime membership and link their Twitch app with their Epic Games account by the deadline date.
5. High Octane
High Octane is an “Epic” rarity glider from February 2018 (Season 3). Its striking appearance draws inspiration from a Ford Mustang car from 2014’s John Wick and was part of the Hired Gun set. The Fortnite players who own it today had to complete any five challenges from the Tier 100 Challenges that were active throughout the season.
6. Flappy
This happy-faced “Rare” glider belongs to the PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack 3. This bundle was redeemable for PS Plus subscribers for a limited time from September 2018 (Season 5). Its design is a PlayStation-themed makeover of a different glider, named Googly, which came out in April that same year (Season 3).
7. Rotor
Rotor is a standard Fortnite glider of “Epic” rarity and was bundled in the Double Helix Set from October 2018 (Season 6). This particular set came with the limited-time Nintendo Switch Double Helix Bundle, which hit the shelves in October 2018 (Season 6). Other in-game items included in this bundle were Double Helix skin, Telemetry back bling, Pinpoint pickaxe, and 1,000 V-Bucks.
8. Stealth Pivot
This “Rare” glider is part of the Counterattack set and was introduced in Fortnite in April 2019 (Season 8). It was exclusively available in the GeForce Fortnite Bundle 2, which was a limited-time offer available with the purchase of an eligible Nvidia GeForce GPU.
Apart from the Stealth Pivot glider, the special bundle also packed the Stealth Reflex skin, Stealth Response Unit back bling, Stealth Angular Axe pickaxe, and 2,000 V-Bucks. Incidentally, this glider is an updated version of the Pivot glider, which was part of the first GeForce Fortnite Bundle.
9. Snowflake
Snowflake is yet another umbrella glider that rolled out in December 2017 during Season 2. This item of “Common” rarity has the distinction of being the first themed umbrella glider in Fortnite. To unlock the Snowflake glider, players had to achieve a Victory Royale during that particular season.
10. Founder’s Umbrella
The Founder’s Umbrella is a “Common” glider in name only, as it hasn’t been up for grabs in the game for many years and is hence owned by a limited pool of players. This umbrella-type glider was released in 2017 during the pre-season, aka Season 0.
The players who purchased the Founder’s Pack for Fortnite Save The World received the Founder’s Glider, which, upon winning a match, would transform into Founder’s Umbrella. It joined the list of rarest gliders after the Founder’s Pack went off the market in June 2020, when Save The World finally left early access.
Wrapping up
Almost all entries in this list haven’t become available for new players for several years now. However, that doesn’t mean things can’t change in the future. Up until December 2024, the Aerial Assault One glider was considered to be among the rarest gliders in Fortnite, before that changed when it returned to the Item Shop, as part of the OG Season Shop, and remained on sale for over a year.
In the event that Epic conducts a similar promotion or somehow accidentally lists an old glider (rare, but it does happen), one of the aforementioned gliders could actually become available to grab for players in the future. Therefore, it’s best to keep an eye out on the in-game store.
