Apple AirPods are arguably one of the best wireless earbuds that have taken this category mainstream. However, at times when you are using them and watching a new episode of your favorite Apple TV+ show, you find that suddenly left or right AirPod has stopped working. Now this is an uncomfortable and irritating issue.
If your AirPods are out of warranty you may have to spend the same amount of money for buying new ones. But before you take this big step, let me be of some help. Here I have outlined some of the best ways to troubleshoot and solve the issue of left or right AirPod not working.
Left or Right AirPod Not Working? Here is How to Fix It
Solution #1. Make Sure AirPods are Charged
If your AirPods are not charged, they won’t connect. The first thing to do is to make sure to check that your AirPods are charged or not. Also, while using them, the battery of one of the AirPod may deplete faster than the other. So when either left or right AirPod stops working, simply put it in the case to charge.
Note: You can use one AirPod at a time and charge another.
Solution #2. Check AirPods are Paired Correctly
AirPods not connecting/pairing with your iPhone? Put them into the charging case. Now wait for 15 seconds and take them out. Ideally, this step should help resolve pairing/connection issues. You can also try to toggle Bluetooth ON/OFF. If this does not work, try the next one.
Solution #3. Restart the Connected Device
Place the AirPods in its charging case and close the lid. Now restart the iPhone or Mac it was connected with. After that, try connecting and using the AirPods again.
Solution #4. Check Software Update and Firmware
A good step is to ensure that your connected device like iPhone, Mac, etc. are running the latest software. You should also check if your AirPods have the latest firmware or not.
Solution #5. Reset your AirPods
As with most of the other gadgets, resetting AirPods is the easiest and also the most efficient way to resolve issues.
Step #1. Take off your AirPods and put them in the case for at least 30 seconds. Now reopen the lid, but make sure the AirPods remain within the case.
Step #2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and then tap on Bluetooth.
Step #3. In the Bluetooth setup page, tap on the “i” icon next to AirPods name. Now tap on Forget This Device and confirm the action.
Step #4. Now press and hold the circular setup button, which is on the back of the AirPods case. Wait for the light to start flashing.
Step #5. As a concluding step, place your AirPods case closer to iPhone and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your AirPods.
Solution #6. Audio Static Issues
It is very common for Bluetooth headset to suffer from static issues. Static is when you hear distortion or any other form of noise due to interference of other wireless devices. In cases like this, you need to see if the static occurs in only one place. If this is true, then you need to figure out the device that is causing the problem and move it. Or you can also use AirPods in a different area.
Furthermore, please note that even Wi-Fi routers can cause interference issues on AirPods. Lastly, you can try turning off Automatic Ear Detection and see if it helps.
Solution #7. Clean the AirPods
AirPods users have often complained of no sound coming out from one ear or AirPods playing in one ear. That apart, users also complain about muffled sound or low sound in one or both the AirPods. The best way to counter this method is by cleaning the AirPods. No, you don’t need some fancy machine to do it, all you need is an earbud and a diluted peroxide solution. It is also recommended that you blow the AirPods and remove any trash that is stuck.
Solution #8. Battery Issues
Apple has designed the AirPods in such a way that battery cannot be replaced. If you have battery issues and AirPods is out of warranty then you will be left with no option but to buy a replacement. Even if you damage your AirPods, then you need to replace it with new ones.
Note: The best way to protect yourself from such situations is to buy AppleCare+ for AirPods. This way, Apple will replace them free of costs in case of battery failures. Out of warranty, battery replacement for AirPods costs $49 for each and an extra $49 to replace charging case battery. However, you can get AirPod replaced for a discounted price. For this, you simply need to ask Apple service for “battery service.” This way you will get both the AirPods at just $100.
Needless to say, AirPods Pro replacement is priced much higher at $89 per earbud and $99 for a new charging case. If you have AppleCare+ then the replacement will cost just $29 for each repair.
Wrapping it up…
The above steps are good enough to solve common AirPods issues. However, some problems are severe and need intervention by Apple Genius. You can head to the nearest Apple Store, and perhaps you can begin by contacting Apple Support.
