There are birthday quests in the game’s Battle Royale and OG modes already in place; now with a sprite on the way as well, the special event is set to go into full swing.
Birthday cakes, presents, balloons, and more have started appearing in Fortnite matches, as the game celebrates its nine-year milestone. Soon, the Birthday Sprite will also enter the mix, as first reported by popular leaker Shiina. What does the Birthday Sprite in Fortnite do?
Per the leak shared by HYPEX, with the Birthday Sprite equipped, you have a boosted chance of getting a Birthday Cake by opening chests. The latter is another recent inclusion in the game, which restores health and shield when you consume it.
By leveling up the Birthday Sprite, you can further increase the effectiveness of the aforementioned ability. On top of that, once you have maxed out the sprite, you also have a chance of getting a Birthday Cake from eliminating enemies during a match.
Thanks to the arrival of this Fortnite sprite, players will now have one more healing item that they can claim from chests. At its max level, this Rare-tier item can come in handy in the aftermath of each tough kill, given that it can immediately provide a Birthday Cake to restore any lost health or shield.
Birthday Sprite release date
According to the same source that revealed its ability, the Birthday Sprite is scheduled to release in Fortnite Override on Saturday, September 26. Notably, this content drop will deviate from the game’s usual sprite additions that take place on Thursdays.
While you may reasonably think that rolling out a sprite on a Saturday is strange, it isn’t really the first time the Fortnite devs have followed this strategy this season. In August, they shipped the Storm Scout Sprite on the sixth day of the week as well.
Based on the fact that the Birthday Sprite’s launch coincides with the Power Hour, a time during which the spawn rate of sprites that are hard to come by is boosted, it could consequently shoot up the acquisition rate of this forthcoming sprite on its first day in the game.
