The standard iPhone 18 may not arrive alongside Apple’s next-generation Pro models after all. Fresh comments from one of the company’s key suppliers appear to support reports that Apple is preparing to split its iPhone launch schedule for the first time in more than a decade.
If the reports are accurate, the base iPhone 18 could launch in early 2027 instead of its traditional September release window.
Supplier comments add weight to existing reports
During Largan Precision’s annual shareholders’ meeting, chairman Lin En-ping revealed that a major U.S. customer had postponed the launch of a new product until the first quarter of 2027.
Although Lin did not identify the customer or the product, the remarks have attracted attention because Largan Precision is Apple’s primary supplier of iPhone camera lenses. The reported delay also aligns with earlier rumors suggesting that the standard iPhone 18 could miss Apple’s traditional fall launch event.
Supplier executives rarely comment on unannounced products, making the statement particularly noteworthy despite the lack of direct confirmation.
Apple could split future iPhone launches
Several reports suggest Apple is considering a new launch strategy that separates premium and standard iPhone models.
Under the rumored plan, Apple would introduce the iPhone 18 Pro models and its first foldable iPhone, widely rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, during its usual September event. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and second-generation iPhone Air would then launch in early 2027.
Such a move would expand Apple’s annual iPhone lineup to six devices and spread launches across two different seasons rather than a single event.
A staggered release schedule could help Apple better manage manufacturing capacity as its product portfolio continues to grow. It would also allow the company to generate consumer interest and sales momentum throughout the year instead of concentrating all flagship launches in September.
If implemented, the strategy would mark Apple’s first major departure from its annual fall iPhone launch cycle, a pattern that has remained largely unchanged since the introduction of the iPhone 4S in 2011.
Current reports also suggest that the standard iPhone 18 will retain a familiar design, featuring a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 18e is expected to continue with a 6.1-inch screen.
For now, Apple has not commented on its future iPhone release plans, and the rumored schedule remains unconfirmed. However, the latest supplier comments add another piece to a growing body of reports suggesting significant changes could be on the way for the iPhone lineup.
