Apple Unveils 14-Inch MacBook Pro with M5 Chip and Expanded Storage

Apple has introduced a new base 14-inch MacBook Pro, upgraded with its latest M5 chip. The device combines noticeable performance gains with the enduring premium aesthetics Apple fans have come to expect. Alongside this release, the M5 chip is also powering enhancements in the iPad Pro and Vision Pro models.

The M5 chip boasts a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. According to Apple, users will experience up to 20% faster CPU speeds for demanding activities, such as code compiling, and graphics performance that is up to 1.6 times faster with professional applications. These upgrades are aimed squarely at developers and creative pros looking for a significant improvement in their workflow.

Familiar Design with Expanded Storage Options

Externally, the design remains unchanged. The new MacBook Pro continues to feature the Liquid Retina XDR display, offering 1,000 nits of brightness for SDR and peaking at 1,600 nits for HDR. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, a headphone jack, and MagSafe 3 charging. The backlit Magic Keyboard comes with Touch ID for security. Additional features are a 12MP Center Stage camera for 1080p video, a six-speaker sound system, and a three-microphone array.

The primary update besides the M5 chip is the storage. The base model 14-inch MacBook Pro can now be configured with up to 4TB of storage—doubling the previous limit of 2TB. However, the maximum RAM stays at 32GB, which might limit some heavy multitasking environments.

Price and Availability

Pricing for the new M5 MacBook Pro starts at $1,599 in the U.S., including 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Consumers can choose between Silver and Space Black finishes. Pre-orders are available through Apple’s website, with shipments and in-store options starting Wednesday, October 22.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Models Coming in 2026

So far, Apple hasn’t revealed plans for M5 Pro or M5 Max variants. The more advanced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring these chips are anticipated to launch in early 2026.
