Apple has confirmed a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini AI into future Apple Intelligence features, enabling a smarter, more personalized Siri while maintaining strong on-device privacy protections.
Apple has officially announced a collaboration with Google, using Google’s Gemini AI models and cloud infrastructure to enhance future Apple Intelligence features. A more personalized Siri, expected to launch later this year, is at the forefront of these developments.
In a statement delivered to CNBC’s Jim Cramer, Apple explained its choice of Google after “careful evaluation,” describing Gemini as the “most capable foundation” for advancing its next-generation AI models.
Google, for its part, confirmed this partnership on social media, stating that the collaboration spans multiple years. The tech giant noted that Apple’s upcoming foundation models will rely on Gemini’s AI models and cloud technology to fuel future Apple Intelligence enhancements.
Even with Gemini in the mix, Apple maintains its commitment to privacy. Google’s announcement assures that Apple Intelligence will continue performing on-device via on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, all while adhering to Apple’s “industry-leading privacy standards.”
Neither Apple nor Google has provided details on how the workload will be divided between Gemini and Apple’s proprietary models. However, it’s anticipated that while Gemini will power certain aspects, numerous experiences will still run internally at Apple.
This announcement follows months of speculation, particularly from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who suggested Apple was integrating Gemini into Apple Intelligence while developing a significant Siri overhaul. Apple initially previewed this revamped Siri at WWDC 2024, highlighting improvements such as personal context awareness, in-app actions, and on-screen awareness, alongside Apple Intelligence tools like Writing Tools, Notification Summaries, Image Playground, and Genmoji.
Though Apple has implemented most Apple Intelligence features, the updated Siri has stumbled with delays. In 2025, Apple conceded it required additional time to bring the enhanced Siri functionalities to market.
Bloomberg previously reported that Apple might spend around $1 billion annually to access Gemini, and that the company intends to utilize a 1.2 trillion-parameter AI model for the enhanced Siri. These technical and financial specifics, however, remain unverified by both Apple and Google.
How do you feel about Google Gemini’s role in shaping future Siri and Apple Intelligence features? We’re eager to hear your thoughts in the comments.
