When Apple announced the iPhone Duo, one question immediately caught my attention: does it have MagSafe? That might sound small, but I think it is one of the more important questions to answer before buying one.
Many of us have already invested in MagSafe chargers, battery packs, wallets, stands, and car mounts. The last thing I would want is to discover that my new iPhone technically supports MagSafe but makes half of my accessories useless.

Yes. The iPhone Duo has MagSafe built-in.
Apple’s technical specifications list:

- An alignment magnet
- Accessory Identification NFC
- Magnetometer
That second part is particularly important.
The magnet array and an alignment magnet in the iPhone Duo make MagSafe accessories snap into position. That means the phone isn’t relying solely on the charging coil to work with a MagSafe charger.
How fast is MagSafe charging on the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo supports MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W.
Apple says the phone can reach up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes when using a MagSafe Charger paired with a 35W adapter or higher.
For comparison, wired USB-C charging is faster, reaching up to 50% in around 20 minutes when connected to a 60W-capable adapter or higher.
So I wouldn’t buy the iPhone Duo expecting MagSafe to replace wired charging when I need the fastest possible top-up. Instead, I see MagSafe as the convenience option.
Can I use existing MagSafe chargers with the iPhone Duo?
Yes, the iPhone Duo is designed to work with MagSafe chargers.
So if you already own Apple’s MagSafe Charger, you don’t need to buy another charger for the iPhone Duo.
However, MagSafe charging compatibility isn’t the same as accessory compatibility. A MagSafe charger only needs to align with the charging area. Other MagSafe accessories can have very different physical requirements.
For example, a battery pack needs enough usable space around the magnetic attachment area. But the Duo’s dimensions and camera bump can cause problems with larger MagSafe power banks.
What about MagSafe cases for the iPhone Duo?
Apple has released the iPhone Duo Case, a two-part protective case designed specifically for the foldable phone.
It is compatible with:

- Qi2 at 25W
- Qi-certified chargers
The case also has built-in magnets designed to align with the iPhone Duo. Apple’s iPhone Duo Folio is another option. It includes an integrated kickstand and is also designed around the Duo’s foldable form factor.
There are already several third-party iPhone Duo cases with magnetic charging support, including options from Spigen, Ridge, FNTCASE, and others. However, the design of each case matters because the hinge and folding mechanism can affect how some MagSafe accessories attach to the phone.

Do MagSafe accessories work while the iPhone Duo is folded?
The iPhone Duo has a completely different shape from a regular iPhone. It folds in half, has a hinge, and has a different camera layout.
That means an accessory can magnetically attach to the phone and still be awkward to use. Some existing batteries don’t have enough usable space around the magnetic attachment area, while others could extend beyond the bottom of the Duo.
Moreover, the camera bump and the Duo’s dimensions make the standard MagSafe wallet arrangement problematic. That’s a big deal if you were expecting to take your existing MagSafe wallet from your current iPhone and simply slap it onto the Duo.
You should also consider MagSafe car mounts and stands. These accessories were generally designed around the dimensions of traditional iPhones, so their size and positioning can matter just as much as the magnets themselves.

Does iPhone Duo support Qi2?
Yes, the iPhone Duo supports Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W, which is the same maximum charging speed Apple lists for MagSafe.
I think this is good news because Qi2 gives you more freedom when shopping for wireless chargers and magnetic accessories. Qi2 uses magnetic alignment similar to MagSafe, but it is an industry-wide wireless charging standard rather than an Apple-only system.
There is one thing I would watch out for, though: “magnetic” doesn’t automatically mean Qi2. A charger can use magnets to hold your iPhone Duo in place without being Qi2-certified. Likewise, seeing “MagSafe compatible” on a product doesn’t necessarily mean it will deliver the full 25W charging speed.
So, when I’m shopping for a charger, I wouldn’t rely on the word “magnetic” alone. I’d look for the product listing to explicitly mention Qi2 25W or MagSafe 25W support for full-speed charging.
Final thoughts
After looking through Apple’s specifications, I think the MagSafe situation on the iPhone Duo is actually pretty straightforward, but only if we separate charging from accessories.
The iPhone Duo has the magnets required for MagSafe and supports 25W MagSafe and Qi2 charging. However, not every MagSafe accessory will work perfectly with the Duo. Its foldable design changes the way accessories fit, so I’d always check for iPhone Duo compatibility before buying one.
