The iPhone 18 Pro is still more than half a year away, yet early rumors about Apple’s next flagship colors are already gaining attention. The biggest highlight so far suggests Apple could finally introduce a red finish for a Pro-level iPhone, something users have long requested.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently testing a new “deep red” color option for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The shift to an all-aluminum unibody design in the iPhone 17 Pro reportedly gives Apple greater flexibility to experiment with new finishes on its premium models.

Gurman notes that the existing Cosmic Orange color has proven highly popular, particularly in China. Because of that success, Apple may keep the orange option while adding red as an additional choice, even though the two shades sit close together on the color spectrum.

He adds that red is presently being tested internally as the flagship color for the next Pro models. Earlier rumors suggesting purple or brown finishes could simply be variations derived from this same red concept rather than entirely separate colors.

A red Pro iPhone would mark a notable shift for Apple. offered a red iPhone in the iPhone 14 series in 2022, and Pro models have historically avoided bold color options in favor of muted metallic tones.

iPhone Fold Expected to Avoid Bold Colors

Gurman also shared insights into Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone. Unlike the Pro lineup, the first-generation iPhone Fold may launch with conservative color choices.

Apple is expected to stick with classic finishes such as dark gray or black, alongside a lighter silver or white option. Limiting color variants could help simplify manufacturing for a completely new product category.

A similar strategy appeared with the iPhone X launch, which debuted in only two colors compared to the broader palette available on the iPhone 7 generation.

Apple is expected to unveil its next wave of iPhones in September, when the final color lineup should become clear.
