Grok appears to be preparing for a broader rollout beyond smartphones and Tesla vehicles, with early signs pointing to upcoming support for Apple CarPlay.

The latest version of the Grok app on iPhone includes a placeholder entry for CarPlay. While the feature is not yet functional, its presence confirms that xAI is actively working to bring its chatbot experience into Apple’s in-car system. At the moment, opening Grok within CarPlay displays a simple message: “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay.”

    A wider reach beyond Tesla

Grok is already integrated into Tesla vehicles, where it operates as part of the in-car experience. Expanding to CarPlay would significantly broaden its reach, as CarPlay is supported across a wide range of automakers and regions.

This move also shifts how Grok is positioned. Instead of being tied to a single ecosystem, it would become accessible to a much larger audience, as long as their vehicle supports CarPlay.

CarPlay is becoming an AI hub

Once it rolls out, Grok will join other AI tools that are gradually making their way into CarPlay, including ChatGPT and Perplexity AI.

The broader trend is becoming clear. CarPlay is evolving into a platform where conversational interfaces are starting to take shape, with voice-first interactions fitting naturally into the driving experience.

At the same time, Google has not announced CarPlay support for Gemini. Instead, its models are expected to play a role in future updates to Siri in iOS 27, which could eventually extend to in-car use.

There is still no official timeline for Grok’s CarPlay rollout, and the current implementation remains limited to a placeholder. Even so, the presence of the feature suggests that development is underway and that a wider release could arrive sooner rather than later.

If that happens, Grok would transition from being primarily associated with Tesla to becoming part of a widely used in-car platform, placing it alongside other AI assistants already entering the space.
