Netflix To Introduce Three Major App Features

Netflix unveils real-time voting, dynamic homepages, and revamped kids’ profiles to make streaming more interactive and personalized.

Netflix is set to enhance its app with new features designed to deepen interaction and personalization. This initiative, revealed by Netflix’s Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone during TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, has been confirmed by reports from 9to5Mac, TechRadar, and NewsBytes.

Real-Time Voting Comes to Live Shows

One of the more ambitious updates is the introduction of a real-time voting feature for live shows. Beginning with the revival of Star Search next year, this function allows viewers to vote during live broadcasts directly from their television or mobile device. This addition brings an interactive, community-driven dynamic that has traditionally been the domain of network television. Previously, Netflix tested this concept with the live cooking show Dinner Time Live with David Chang, which demonstrated strong viewer engagement.

Viewers who tune in live will encounter on-screen prompts to cast their votes, though those who pause or watch later won’t be able to participate. Stone describes this as a way to make audiences feel involved in the narrative rather than just spectators.

Netflix also teased that such interactive capabilities might extend to other live formats, like video podcasts or party games, indicating a broader move toward social and participatory streaming.

Immersive Homepages Add Life to the Netflix Interface

In addition to voting, Netflix is transforming its homepage from a static to a more dynamic experience. This update is part of their recent layout overhaul and will introduce animated backgrounds, themed effects, and fluid transitions for various collections.

The changes will commence with a Halloween Collection, followed by a Holiday Collection later this year. A Bridgerton-themed homepage is also slated, featuring subtle period-appropriate animations and visuals to complement the show’s vibe. These lively designs aim to make browsing feel more like entering a cinematic universe.

Revamped Kids’ Profiles With a Simplified Design

Netflix is also rolling out an improved interface for kids’ profiles designed to simplify usage. The revamped layout features an easier-to-navigate design along with a My Netflix tab—a central hub where children can revisit shows they’ve watched, liked, or saved. This section updates in real-time, facilitating younger users’ access to their favorite content without the need to search.

Existing parental controls, character-themed rows, and mystery box recommendations remain integrated. Per TechRadar, the redesign for kids’ profiles has already begun its global deployment.

Vertical Videos and Party Games Expand Interaction

Alongside these updates, Netflix is exploring the addition of vertical videos for more portable, shareable content. While the move doesn’t position Netflix as a TikTok rival, it provides a venue for quick glimpses or shareable moments from shows.

Additionally, Netflix plans to grow its library of interactive party games, including familiar names like Pictionary and Boggle, with more slated for release in 2026. These updates align with Netflix’s strategy to merge entertainment, gaming, and social elements within one platform.
