AirPods Pro 3 leak suggests no smaller case after all, but a new touch control on the front adds smarter pairing and playback features.
After three years, Apple is gearing up to unveil the AirPods Pro 3. The release is heavily rumored to coincide with the iPhone 17 at Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event on September 9. All signs point to the Pro lineup taking design cues from the AirPods 4.
While early whispers pointed to a smaller case, leaker Majin Bu suggests Apple is keeping the same dimensions while introducing a more refined, touch-friendly approach.
Initially, reports claimed the AirPods Pro 3 case would be slightly smaller than its predecessor. But after consulting accessory makers and comparing measurements, the reality looks different—the case dimensions are almost identical to previous models. So if you were expecting a smaller, more pocket‑friendly case, you might be disappointed, as Apple seems to be sticking with the familiar size.
What has been confirmed is far more interesting: Apple is removing the physical rear pairing button. Instead, a front-facing touch control will take its place, similar to what debuted on the AirPods 4. This change eliminates moving parts that are prone to wear and simplifies the overall design. The new capacitive button will support intuitive gestures, like tapping to pair with an iPhone or controlling playback and volume.
The lanyard loop from AirPods Pro 2 will also remain and may work with the leaked Crossbody Strap for iPhone 17.
Beyond the case, the AirPods Pro 3 earbuds themselves are expected to look nearly identical to the current generation. Apple seems intent on preserving its minimalist design language while making small refinements to comfort and durability. These subtle changes prioritize reliability and ensure a seamless experience for current AirPods Pro users upgrading to the new model.
In short, this leak suggests Apple isn’t reinventing the AirPods Pro, but it is making them smarter, more intuitive, and aligned with the rest of its touch-first ecosystem.
