Trick or Treat Sprites finally arrived in Fortnite on Thursday, following a lot of anticipation since their in-game announcement some days ago. In doing so, the game has expanded this season’s variant count to six (including base) and raised the total number of unique sprites in Fortnite to a staggering 145.
These Trick Or Treat variants are the latest Halloween-themed addition to Fortnite, as the game celebrates its annual Fortnitemares event through October. Prior to this, on October 1, the devs had shipped a few Halloween-inspired sprites alongside themed changes to the map and gameplay, particularly in the Battle Royale mode.
How to get Trick Or Treat sprites in Fortnite
Similar to how it is with other variants, you have a bunch of different ways you can get your hands on a Trick Or Treat sprite. These include self-sufficient approaches as well as a collaborative effort, giving players ample freedom on how to go ahead with things.
1. By using cheat codes
Perhaps you are most likely to find success sooner if you go down the route of searching cheat codes and using them. These are widespread throughout the Fortnite map and offer you all kinds of sprites, ranging from the Legendary-tier Deer Sprite and the Rare-tier Birthday Sprite.
These cheat codes are in high numbers across POIs, such as Cluster Coast, Green Hill Zone, Heatwave Harbor, Shaken Sanctuary and Sunken Shores. But, if you don’t want to scour a particular location a cheat code, you can also get its location marked by using a Cheat Code Locator. These are up for grabs for free through Fortnite Lobby Hacks and also available for purchase from Extraction Sites.
2. By smashing Pumpkin Chests
Pumpkin Chests are a guaranteed way of obtaining a Halloween-themed sprite from among the Spooky Dash Sprite, Vampire Sprite, Deer Sprite, and the Trick or Treat sprites. It’s worth noting that, unlike other chests, they do not provide anything else like weapons or healing items.
However, Pumpkin Chests are not as commonly found as cheat codes in Fortnite. On top of that, there are only some specific locations, such as Nightmare Neighborhood, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, Freaky Fields, and Stone Sanctum, that have more than one or two of them at any time.
3. By opening Rare Chests
Rare Chests used to be a reliable provider of sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, but since the rollout of Fortnite Override season, cheat codes have effectively taken their place. What that means is there is a very low chance that these blue chests would help you add a Trick or Treat variant to your sprite collection.
But having a low chance doesn’t mean a zero chance. So, it might still be worth trying your luck whenever you stumble upon these Rare Chests that appear few and far between during a Fortnite match. You can usually find these chests in high concentration in certain areas, including Nightmare Neighborhood, Stone Sanctum, Pac-Man Island, Blinky Island, Cluster Coast, and the maze to the southeast of Stone Sanctum.
4. By taking help from other players
If all that is too time-consuming, you can take the help of another Fortnite player or find someone willing to help in the game’s official Discord server. How this exactly works is that the two players will have to do the indexing of the desired sprite over two matches.
In the first one, you can take a Trick Or Treat sprite from the other player and extract it to index the same into your sprites catalog. In the second match, you can return the sprite to its original owner. To recall the lost sprite, you will simply have to navigate to the Sprites section, in the Override tab, and spend some Sprite Dust, which is another commodity that can be unlocked via the aforementioned Lobby Hacks.
What Trick Or Treat sprite variant does in Fortnite
Trick Or Treat variants are the sole update that has come to the sprites feature in Fortnite this week. It is a special-tier sprite variant and gives those who equip it a chance of receiving candy—an in-game health consumable—when they open a container, like a chest.
In its ability to provide a health consumable, this sprite variant is similar in its purpose to the Birthday Sprite, which provides the Birthday Cake item. Other sprites active in Fortnite Override that boost healing are Onigiri Sprite, Morgana Sprite, and Dumpster Dive Sprite.
Rounding up
Trick Or Treat variants have certainly enhanced the Halloween vibe in the current version of Fortnite. Over the coming days, it will be interesting to see how prevalent and how popular this sprite variant gets in the game’s community. Personally speaking, for now, it appears to be nothing more than an average inclusion in the sprites lineup.
