A flusher, or port-a-potty, is an important traversal mechanic in Fortnite’s gameplay. It was first introduced in Chapter 2 Season 2 (February 2020) and has changed significantly in its usage as of the ongoing Chapter 7 Season 4.
It was initially introduced as a type of hideout, where players could take respite from the game for a few moments. And only some of them would teleport their users across a distance. However, the current iteration of port-a-potties exclusively helps the player fast-travel during a match.
The use of a flusher has been an optional thing for most players. They can use it when they happen to come across one, but not using it isn’t of any major consequence in the game. However, there can be times when accessing a flusher is integral to completing an objective, as in the case of Fortnite Override’s Geno quest, which requires you to use one.
What does a flusher do in Fortnite?
A flusher basically lets you quickly travel between two different locations in the same neighborhood during a Fortnite match. As soon as you enter it, a brief cutscene is shown, and the next thing you know is you have teleported to a different spot, though one that’s not too far away. Plus, you can even go back in, and the port-a-potty will take you to the original location once again.
This simple but highly potent traversal mechanic can be seen as an underrated aspect in Fortnite. The flusher can prove to be game-changing when you are in the Storm and low on health, by helping you considerably cut down the journey to the safe zone. Other than that, it can obviously be used to plan your escape when things go south during an enemy encounter.
In certain instances, the flusher has also been incorporated into Fortnite’s story quests. At the time of writing, there is an active Geno quest in which the player must block the former from listening to The Order’s message by travelling through a flusher.
Flusher or port-a-potty locations in Fortnite
Although spread out across different parts of the Fortnite map in modes such as Battle Royale, port-a-potties aren’t exactly abundant. There are a total of 28 port-a-potties, which ultimately form 14 pairs of fast-travel points.
It’s also worth noting that they are usually found along the coastline of the Battle Royale island, with most of them situated on the eastern half of the map. Only a few pairs of flushers can be found in the other half.
The locations of the flushers in Fortnite Battle Royale are as depicted in the image below. Also, kindly note that the Wonkeeland location has 2 pairs of flushers within the same marked circle.
Wrapping up
Traversal in fast-paced online multiplayer games is arguably as important as combat. With that said, features such as flushers, aka port-a-potties, in Fortnite are something that bring an interesting twist to conventional modes of travelling across the in-game world. Not only do they make covering more ground quick and efficient, but they also offer players a new strategic factor to experiment with in certain high-stakes scenarios during a match.
