Fortnite Override finally rolled out last Thursday, unfurling a season-long celebration of some of the biggest video game franchises in the world. It not only brought gaming-related cosmetics but also added some brand-new map areas inspired by iconic video game locations and more.

Apart from bringing some visual freshness to the Battle Royale map, these changes introduced in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 also have some gameplay elements unique to them. For instance, while one particular location has launchers that send you sprinting in a flash, the other is a puzzling shape-shifting maze.

In this article, you can check out the entire list of newly added Fortnite Override map changes, along with what makes them stand out from the rest of the island.

New map locations in Fortnite Override

    Green Hill Zone

    Green Hill Zone

This area in the Battle Royale map is inspired by the namesake location shown in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It houses various aspects that Sonic fans would be familiar with, such as hooped tracks, collectible gold rings, speed boosters, and jump springs. Since some of these influence the gameplay, particularly traversal, they give Fortnite’s Green Hill Zone a unique identity.

Moreover, the venue also has plenty of common chests and sprite chests scattered throughout, making its exploration rewarding for players. Due to such abundance, in each match, you will see many players land in this area. As a result, it’s best to stay alert when in Green Hill Zone. Courtesy of the speed boosters, grind rails, and jump springs, escaping a firefight isn’t a tough ask anyway, if push comes to shove.

    Pac-Man islands

    Pac-Man islands

There are not one but three different islands in the shape of popular Pac-Man characters. This lineup includes the titular protagonist and two of its enemies, namely Pinky and Blinky. On the one hand, the Pac-Man island is located at the northern tip of the island, between Lifty Lodge and Latte Landing. On the other hand, Blinky and Pinky are located near the western and eastern corners of the map, respectively, on either side of Sunken Shores.

These three islands have a fair number of chests, usually found under the trees, which is why they are frequented by quite a few players. Owing to this, it is imperative to constantly watch your back when you are in this zone, as there is little to no cover to protect you from enemy fire.

    Reality’s Reign

    Reality Reign

Reality’s Reign is a very futuristic-looking place in Fortnite’s new Battle Royale map. The design of its structures is heavily inspired by hardware components that are prevalent in the PC gaming landscape, such as liquid-cooled GPUs.

This is another place that has a sufficient number of chests. However, given that it also provides an ample amount of cover and places to hide, it is relatively safer to land here compared to some of the other locations mentioned previously.

    Stone Sanctum

    Stone Sanctum

This stone structure in Fortnite Override is reminiscent of the ancient temples often seen in films and similar media. Similar to Reality’s Reign, Stone Sanctum also has a fair number of chests spread across its length and breadth, on top of enough places to take cover or hide from enemies.

What makes exploring this complex and chasing opponents in it trickier is the shape-shifting nature of its walls. Hence, it’s a great place for those looking to lose pursuers but an annoying place for those chasing after other players.

    Sunken Shores (Tetris-ified)

Although Sunken Shores is a location inherited from Chapter 7 Season 3, it is worth mentioning in this list because the devs have given it a significant refresh, incorporating heavy Tetris influence. The highly iconic Tetris blocks can now be spotted sprouting out of the decrepit houses. Their color certainly adds a level of vibrance to the otherwise dull-looking flooded area that is the original Sunken Shores.

    Rounding up

These new locations added in Fortnite Override have certainly become key points of interest in the game, drawing flocks of players to them throughout a given match. Their unique characteristics, such as shape-shifting mazes, grind rails, and jump springs, make for an intriguing gameplay twist not present in the previous season.

As Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 progresses, it will be worth keeping an eye on how the popularity of these key locations changes over time. At the time of writing, it doesn’t seem like players are even remotely tired of landing in these locations in spite of the early elimination risk involved. Whether this remains the case going forward or not is something only time will tell.
