Instant Hotspot makes it a lot easy to share the data connection from your iOS device. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BT LE), transfers data using Wi-Fi and authenticates by Apple ID. Normally, it functions reliably, but at times it might not work properly. The other day Instant Hotspot stopped working on my iPhone running iOS 11, and I had to try out several tricks to resolve the problem.

If Instant Hotspot doesn't seem to be working on your iPhone or iPad, the following solutions can rescue you. I have mentioned multiple solutions as the problem could be due to more than one reason. Start with the first solution and move to the next trick only if it doesn't click.

Make Sure:

  • Make sure to keep your devices near each other.
  • Be sure your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) has an activated carrier plan that supports this feature.
  • Contact your carrier to make sure you are using a plan that allows tethering.
  • Your devices must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.

Solution #1: Turn Off/ON Radios

The first trick that I would suggest you do is turn off/on the radios. It can most likely resolve the problem.

Open Settings app on your iOS device → tap on Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and turn it off. Wait for a couple of minutes and then turn them on.

Note: Also refresh Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your Mac. Turn off the radios and then restart the computer. Then turn them on.

Solution #2: Hard Reset Your Device

If refreshing radios haven't solved the problem, hard reset your device.

On your iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE or earlier, simply press and hold the sleep/wake button and Home button at once until Apple logo appears.

Step #1. Open Settings app and tap on General.

Step #2. Now, tap on About.
