In June 2025, Fortnite gift cards replaced V-Bucks cards and made the format multi-purpose for buyers. In other words, for the first time, a gift card could be used for something more than just collecting V-Bucks, such as for purchasing a Fortnite Crew subscription, games on the Epic Games Store, and even developer items on fab.com. Thus making sure it catered to not only Fortnite players but those interested in the broader spectrum of Epic’s offerings.
Since Fortnite gift cards are still barely a year old, they are still in the process of completely replacing V-Bucks cards, some of which can still be found in the wild. If you’re still learning about the former, the following guide can be of help as it walks you through the step-by-step process of redeeming a Fortnite gift card.
Steps to redeem a Fortnite gift card
- Scan the QR code on the back of the card or visit Epicgames.com/redeem.
- In case your 16-digit PIN (visible on the back) doesn’t appear automatically after scanning, fill it manually in the text field that appears.
- If you haven’t already, log in to your Epic Games account or create one.
- Finally, click Redeem now to complete the process.
On the next page, you will be able to choose where to spend your newly added balance from among a range of different options, including V-Bucks and Fortnite Crew.
Those users who redeem a Fortnite gift card for the first time by December 31, 2026 will also unlock a free Fortnite skin, named “GHOST Monks”. It’s worth keeping in mind that this bonus is only available for first-time buyers of the Fortnite gift card and not the V-Bucks card.
With the advent of Fortnite gift cards, Epic Games has addressed the long-standing need for a gift card that could be used for purchases beyond its online multiplayer game’s virtual currency. More importantly, being able to use gift cards for Epic Games Store purchases instead of just the traditional payment methods, like credit card, is a welcome change.
The new type of gift card acts as a universal tool for purchases on Epic’s various platforms and fills a notable void in doing so.
