UDID is the unique device identification that is unique for every device, as the name says itself. This is generally required if you are developing an iOS app and wish to test it on your device. As the app isn’t yet on the App Store, you cannot download it straight away as you do with other apps. But with UDID, you can do it. If you are wondering how to find UDID of your iPhone or iPad, that too without using a computer, you have landed at the right place.
Before we proceed, you should know that UDID is a bit of sensitive information. With UDID, the developer can have your device information, while in some cases advertisers extract device data using UDID. So make sure you don’t share it with anyone. Also, to get UDID without using iTunes, you’ll need to download third-party configuration on your device.
We’ve tried out MacBuildServer’s UDID.io and it’s proved to be pretty reliable. Besides, it gets the job done in just a few simple steps. However, we recommend you to remove the configuration profile once you’ve got your work done. Enough talk, let’s get started!
How to find UDID of iPhone or iPad without iTunes
Step #1. Open Safari on your iOS device and head over to https://get.udid.io/
Step #2. Now, hit “Tap to find UDID.”
Step #3. Next, a popup will appear saying, “The website is trying to download a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?” Tap on Allow.
Step #4. Next up, another popup will appear confirming that the profile has been downloaded and suggest you install it from the Settings app. Tap on Close. Up next, open Settings app on your device and then tap on Profile Downloaded option.
Step #5. Now, tap on Install at the top right. You will need to authenticate using the passcode. Then, tap on Install again.
Step #6. You will be directed to the site where you will see the UDID of your iOS device. (It will also show other information like IMEI, serial number, etc.)
Now, you can copy UDID and save it at the desired location or send it via email. And that’s all about it!
Now that you’ve found the UDID of your iOS device, delete the profile. Just go back to Settings → Tap on Profile Downloaded → Tap on Remove Downloaded Profile.
Personally, I don’t see any need to have the UDID for an average user and also, it is not really recommended to get it using third-party services. But if it a time-sensitive matter and you need to get it, then it is inevitable to use this method. But make sure you delete the configuration after you are done with what you needed.
