The 2026 internet sensation, Jimothy the Raccoon, has made its way into Fortnite as an unlockable sidekick. You can complete the relatively easy, although hidden, quest titled ‘Extract a Silly Little Guy’ to get this sidekick as a reward.

For those unaware, Jimothy the Raccoon is a uniquely round and small-sized raccoon spotted in Seattle, USA—that went viral earlier this year. The newly added Fortnite sidekick is modeled after this very mammal and is among the cosmetics introduced in the Fortnitemares 2026 event.

Steps to claim Jimothy the Raccoon in Fortnite

Jimothy the Raccoon is the item you unlock after adding the Dumpster Dive Sprite, one of the sprites introduced in the October 1 update, to your collection. This particular sprite enhances the effect of healing items and also provides food items when you jump into certain hiding spots, such as a dumpster.

Below are the main steps involved in the process of finding the Dumpster Dive Sprite and extracting it.

  1. Enter a ranked or unranked Battle Royale match. (Although sprites are also there in modes such as Reload, the BR mode is more suitable for this)
  2. Use cheat codes, open high-tier chests, smash Pumpkin Chests, or leverage other players to get the Dumpster Dive Sprite.
  3. Go to an Extraction Site or use a Portable Extractor to extract the newly acquired sprite.

As soon as you have extracted the Dumpster Dive Sprite, you will have Jimothy the Raccoon sprite pushed into your owned sidekicks catalog. Simultaneously, you will also get access to its sidekick quests, which can be completed to unlock even more free cosmetics.

Ways to find Dumpster Dive Sprite in Fortnite

Using cheat codes of Epic or higher tier

Cheat codes are the most straightforward way you can get the Dumpster Dive Sprite in Fortnite. Given that it’s an Epic-tier sprite, it is recommended to target the cheat codes that are either purple or golden in color. However, rarely, the blue ones (Rare Cheat Codes) can also grant you Epic Sprites.

You can find cheat codes planted throughout the Fortnite map, but there are certain areas that are more densely populated with these items than the others. A few of these noteworthy areas are Heatwave Harbor, Cluster Coast, and Shaken Sanctuary.

Smashing Pumpkin Chests

There is a brand-new way to acquire sprites during the Fortnitemares month, thanks to the inclusion of Pumpkin Chests. You can find them scattered all over the Battle Royale map, including in some of the most notable POIs such as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, Nightmare Neighborhood, Freaky Fields, Green Hills Zone, Stone Sanctum, and Lifty Lodge.

Unlike other types of chests, Pumpkin Chests are guaranteed to provide one sprite to the player when it is smashed open. However, it must also be noted that while the aforementioned locations are known to have a Pumpkin Chest, they may not spawn in all of those places in every match.

Opening Rare Chests

Although the sprite-giving role has mainly been allotted to cheat codes in Chapter 7 Season 4, the non-standard chests—such as the blue ones—still at times provide a sprite. Apart from the one odd sprite, the blue-colored Rare Chests mostly offer high-value loot to the player.

If you’re going on a chest-hunting spree for the Dumpster Dive Sprite, it would help to focus on the neighborhoods where the blue ones are highly concentrated. Among such locations, the top-most names are Nightmare Neighborhood, Stone Sanctum, Pac-Man Island, Blinky Island, Cluster Coast, and the shape-shifting maze located to the southeast of Stone Sanctum.

Calling out a friend for help

Alternatively, you may also invoke the help of a friendly Fortnite player by finding one in the game’s official Discord server. Afterward, you will have to enter at least two matches together with that player. In the first one, you can take the desired sprite and extract it. In the second one, you can return the sprite to its rightful owner.

Since you have already extracted the sprite once, it is now indexed in your collection. All you need to do after that is visit the Sprites tab in the Override section and recall the sprite using Sprite Dust to be able to use it again.

Unlocking Jimothy the Raccoon sidekick isn’t where it all ends for the viral animal in this game, as there are also three different sidekick rewards attached to a set of quests called ‘Jimothy Quests’.

You can complete these quests by earning Sidekick Points in Fortnite. These points can be accumulated by equipping Jimothy the Raccoon as your sidekick and playing some matches with it. Each time you reach a certain number of these points, you complete one quest. Completing three quests in total unlocks new rewards as follows:

By cashing in on the rising popularity of the viral Jimothy, Fortnite has shown its intent to keep up with what people are talking about at present when it comes to deciding in-game cosmetics. The various major third-party collabs that are timed with film and game releases have long been an indicator of the same. With that said, it will be interesting to look forward to which viral content grabs Fortnite devs’ attention next.
