Fortnite recently announced a big change coming to your existing collection of sprites. Not only did they confirm a new set of sprites will replace the existing ones in Chapter 7 Season 4, but they also shared future plans for what happens to those critters you collected in Fortnite Runners.
On August 7, Fortnite officially gave the green light for the sprites gameplay feature to carry over into Fortnite Override. This was met positively by many sections of fans, as this particular aspect of the game has turned out to be very popular among players. Below, you can learn more about how the transition from Season 3 to Season 4 will affect your sprites. You can also find out everything you need to know about the newly revealed Sprite Garden map.
What happens to Chapter 7 Season 3 sprites in Season 4
Fortnite Runners brought a whopping 117 sprites (including variants) for players to catch. Courtesy of the various Sprite Hours, where the spawn rate of a particular sprite or variant is temporarily boosted, which took place at different points throughout the season, many players have put together a long lineup of their own extracted sprites.
Now, apparently, all the sprites from Chapter 7 Season 3 will be restricted to a new Fortnite map called Sprite Garden. For the Season 4 Battle Royale modes, a new set of sprites will be released, which will consist of a mix of fan-made sprites and those made by the devs. It’s worth paying attention that the devs also shared that certain previously added sprites may even be re-released, allowing them to be used beyond the Sprite Garden.
The inclusion of fan-made sprites came about after a public “Design a Sprite” contest was organized by Epic Games. Some of these sprites have already been unveiled and offer benefits as shared below.
- Bullet Sprite: Ammo boxes grant slightly more ammunition than usual.
- Dumpster Dive Sprite: Jumping into dumpsters will provide loot.
- Honey Sprite: When attacked, a beehive spawns, releasing a swarm of bees onto your enemy, which will inflict light damage for a span of time.
- Pond Sprite: Your movement speed in water increases with each level, offering boosted jump height and reduced fall damage at level 5.
- X-Ray Sprite: Offers the ability to see through walls and other obstacles for a limited time.
Moreover, it was also noted that Fortnite Override will bring more ways to “discover” sprites, both in and out of the game. Even though it isn’t clear what this statement entails, it does suggest that sprite extraction during matches may not be the only way you can add sprites to your collection in Chapter 7 Season 4. Additionally, it was further revealed that owned gizmos, such as the Portable Extractor, and Sprite Dust will be reset for the new season.
Sprite Garden in Fortnite, explained
Sprite Garden is the island map where you would be able to equip and showcase Fortnite Runners season sprites, while also being able to visit your friends’ garden sanctuaries, possibly to take a look at their respective sprite collections. Additionally, the sprites you obtain in the Fortnite Override season will also appear in this mode as you grow your collection.
Besides the Sprite Garden, you can further display the Season 3 sprites as part of your cosmetics via the Sprite Mastery Pod Back Bling and via the Guardian Outfit. These old sprites will also still appear in the Sprites tab, together with the new sprites that will join the game eventually.
Wrapping up
With how popular sprites have turned out to be among Fortnite players, it’s no doubt that Epic Games has decided to continue this feature. The novelty of fan-made sprites in Chapter 7 Season 4 could certainly feel like a breath of fresh air.
Based on what we know so far, the incoming fleet of sprites seems to offer exciting variety. From IP-inspired sprites such as Sonic the Hedgehog Sprite to community-powered ones such as the Bullet Sprite, there is no dearth of distinct boosts provided by these backpack-like companions. However, whether or not this variety translates into another successful season for Sprite is something only time will tell.
