Claude can now see your bank and card accounts, but it can’t move money

The read-only beta uses Plaid to show US Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers their balances and up to two years of transactions, but it cannot move or invest money.

Anthropic has added Personal Finance to Claude, letting the chatbot read bank and card data. Announced on November 5, 2026, the beta starts rolling out this week for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the US. Free plans and users outside the US are not included.

Claude connects through Plaid and never sees the bank password

Users sign in to their bank through Plaid, a service that links apps to banks, and approve Claude’s read-only access on that screen. Anthropic says Claude never receives the password. Users choose which accounts to connect, and unlinking an account cuts off Claude’s access to its data. Personal Finance is separate from the Claude connectors for other apps.

For each connected account, Claude can see the bank name, account name and type, the last four digits, balances, and credit limits. It can also see up to two years of transactions. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic’s models.

Claude can explain spending, but it can’t act on it

Claude can total spending by category and compare it with earlier months. It can flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills that have crept up over time. It can explain terms such as APR, including how much interest a user has been charged, and build charts, bill calendars, and dashboards that users can keep adjusting.

The bill calendar answers a common payday question: what is left after the bills come out.

Claude cannot move, manage, or invest money, and the feature is not designed to give investment advice. Claude can also make mistakes, so users should ask which transactions sit behind a figure and check important numbers with their bank. For larger financial decisions, the announcement says Claude should work “alongside the licensed professionals and regulated firms” users already trust. Anthropic is asking banks, wealth managers, and other financial firms to help shape that work.

Anthropic’s Claude Duet, a separate assistant, works on pending tasks even after users log off, though it requires joining a waitlist.

ChatGPT’s version launched in May as a limited US preview for Pro

OpenAI’s ChatGPT personal finance assistant let Pro subscribers link bank accounts, credit cards, and investments through Plaid when it launched on May 15, 2026. Claude’s version uses the same Plaid connection and also starts in the US, but its eligible plans include Max and Ultra.

The announcement does not say whether Personal Finance works on the web, iPhone, or Android, or which banks it supports, but Anthropic’s Help Center does. It lists the web, Claude Desktop, iOS, and Android apps, supports US banks only, and lets users link up to 16 banks. Personal Finance is not available inside Claude Duet.
