WhatsApp Beta for iOS Adds New Message Animation Controls
WhatsApp Beta for iOS adds new controls to manage animated emojis, stickers, and GIFs for a more personalized and efficient chat experience.

- WhatsApp adds animation management for iOS: A new feature lets users control how animated emojis, stickers, and GIFs appear, adding more flexibility to chats.
- Toggle animations for better control: You can turn off animated emojis, stickers, or GIFs to show them as still images, which helps save battery and data.
- Beta testing on iOS first: The feature is rolling out gradually to select iOS beta testers before a wider release to ensure stable performance.
- Parity with Android version: WhatsApp aims to align iOS features with Android, offering consistent animation settings across both platforms.
- Improved accessibility and customization: The update enhances accessibility for sensitive users while making chats feel more personalized and efficient.
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows iOS users to manage how animated content appears in their chats. The update adds a dedicated Animations section under Settings > Chats, giving users control over animations for emojis, stickers, and GIFs.

Manage Emojis, Stickers, and GIFs
According to WABetaInfo, the new controls allow users to toggle off animated emojis to display them as static icons. Similarly, turning off animated stickers shows only their first frame. For GIFs, turning off animation prevents auto-playing and replaces it with a static preview that users can tap to play.
These settings give users more ways to personalize their chats, improve accessibility for people who are sensitive to motion effects, and help reduce battery drain and data consumption during chats.
Gradual Rollout to Beta Testers
Currently, the new controls are only available to select beta testers and will expand to more users in the coming weeks. WhatsApp is rolling out the update in a phased manner to ensure stability and a smooth user experience.
Bringing iOS in Line With Android
In the past, many experimental features reached Android users first, while iOS users had to wait for separate rollouts. With the new animation settings now appearing on iOS, WhatsApp is working to maintain a more synchronized development and release timeline.
