Samsung is reportedly preparing to unveil its AI-powered smart glasses next month, potentially beating Apple to a product category both companies have been quietly developing for years.

According to a report from Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to take place on July 22, where the company will introduce new foldable phones alongside its first AI-focused “Galaxy Glasses.”

Samsung’s wearable strategy looks similar to Meta’s approach

The company is said to be developing the glasses in partnership with Gentle Monster, with the wearable expected to run on Google’s Android XR platform and integrate deeply with Gemini.

The glasses are expected to include cameras, speakers, and microphones, though a built-in display may not be part of the first version. Instead, Samsung seems to be focusing more on AI features and contextual awareness, much like the direction seen with the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

Gemini will reportedly use visuals captured through the glasses to answer questions and provide contextual information. Samsung may also connect the wearable tightly with Galaxy phones and its SmartThings ecosystem.

The setup sounds very similar to Apple’s own smart glasses plans, which are rumored to rely heavily on Siri, onboard cameras, microphones, and contextual AI features rather than full augmented reality displays.

Rumors currently point to Apple launching its smart glasses in 2027, though there’s still a possibility the company previews the product earlier.

That could give Samsung a major lead in AI-powered wearables if its Galaxy Glasses arrive this year as expected.

Foldables are also expected at the event

Samsung is also preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 during the event.

The report also mentions a possible “Fold Wide” device, which could move Samsung closer to the wider foldable aspect ratio Apple is rumored to be using for its first foldable iPhone.

Current Galaxy Fold models are taller and narrower, while Apple’s foldable is expected to use a wider, more iPad-like design.
