Apple’s next Apple TV and HomePod mini may already be close to launch from a hardware standpoint. The bigger question now seems to be when Apple’s new Siri and Apple Intelligence experience will be ready to make them feel new.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini are “nearly ready” and have been used by Apple employees for months. Apple has not announced either product yet, so this is still a report rather than confirmed launch timing.
The timing makes sense. Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote is scheduled for June 8 at 10 a.m. PT, where the company is expected to preview iOS 27, tvOS 27, and its next wave of Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
Apple may be waiting for the new Siri story
Gurman’s report suggests the hardware itself is not the main blocker. Instead, Apple appears to be holding the devices until the software side is ready, especially the new Siri experience expected later this year.
That matters because Apple TV and HomePod mini both sit at the center of the home. A smarter Siri could make the HomePod mini feel less like a tiny speaker with voice commands and more like a useful home assistant. On Apple TV, better Siri could improve search, navigation, smart home control, and quick answers from the couch.
It also fits the broader iOS 27 Siri overhaul Apple is expected to show at WWDC. Recent reports point to a more capable assistant with a dedicated app, better context handling, and deeper system integration. If Apple wants its home devices to be part of that reset, launching them before the software is ready would blunt the pitch.
The hardware may be a practical refresh
The next Apple TV is not expected to be a dramatic redesign. Gurman says he would not expect huge hardware changes beyond the new chip, though the Siri Remote may also be refreshed in some form.
That still leaves room for a meaningful upgrade. The current Apple TV 4K dates back to 2022, and a newer chip could make the box faster, more efficient, and better prepared for future Siri, smart home, and gaming features. A better Siri Remote would also be welcome, especially if Apple wants voice search and assistant controls to feel central again.
The HomePod mini refresh is overdue in a more obvious way. The original model launched in 2020, and Apple has mostly kept it alive through color changes and software updates. A new model would likely focus on a faster chip and better wireless performance, while keeping the small design and $99-style positioning that made the mini easy to recommend. The latest report gives fresh weight to the long-running HomePod mini 2 expectations, but Apple has not confirmed the final specs.
WWDC should make the launch window clearer
The safest read is that Apple has the living-room hardware close to done, but wants the launch to line up with the bigger Siri and Apple Intelligence push. That points to a fall release window, assuming the software lands on schedule.
For users, the key question is not just whether Apple ships a faster Apple TV or a refreshed HomePod mini. It is whether Siri finally becomes useful enough to make those devices feel smarter in daily use. WWDC should tell us how close Apple is to that promise.
