Call forwarding is one of the most underrated features on the iPhone. This carrier-specific functionality can be used to divert and forward calls to a third number while you’re busy or the phone number is unreachable.
This helps ensure you don’t miss that important call from your family, friend, or office. Here’s what you need to know on how to forward calls on iPhone.
- AT&T, T-Mobile, and other GSM carriers: Use built-in iPhone call forwarding feature
- Forward calls on your iPhone using Carrier’s codes
AT&T, T-Mobile, and other GSM carriers: Use built-in iPhone call forwarding feature
If you reside in the US and are an AT&T, T-Mobile, or any other GSM user, you can turn on call forwarding from Settings.
Note: This is not the correct path for all carriers. There are more instructions below if you don’t see your carrier here.
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and go to Phone.
- Select Call Forwarding.
- On the next page, toggle on Call Forwarding.
- Tap Forward To.
- On the next screen, type the cell number you’d like forward calls to.
Just type the number and go back to the Call Forwarding page. All calls on your iPhone will be now forwarded to the mentioned number.
If you want to turn off call forwarding at any point of time, just disable the toggle and you’ll be able to start taking calls again.

Forward calls on your iPhone using Carrier’s codes
Unlike those mentioned in the previous section, Verizon and Sprint use a distinct technology called CDMA. If you’re using their services, the process of forwarding calls will be different (it can’t be done straight from your iPhone’s Settings like with GSM carriers.)
Here are the steps for Sprint, Verizon, or any other CDMA service users:
- Open the Phone app on your iPhone.
- Tap the keypad icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Type *72 followed by the number you’d like to forward calls to.
- Tap Dial to start forwarding calls.
When you dial the number, all calls on your iPhone will be forwarded to that number. To turn off call forwarding, there’s a slight change in the number.
Verizon and Sprint use different numbers when it comes to turning off call forwarding. Verizon users can dial *73 followed by the phone number to disable call forwarding. Whereas Sprint and Boost Mobile users should dial *720 followed by the number to start retaking phone calls.
Now you know how to forward calls on iPhone. You’ll also be glad to know that you can customize call forwarding on your iPhone.
