When Face ID was first introduced in iOS 11, you could only add a single face to it. But from iOS 12, it became possible to set up alternate appearance to Face ID. How to Add an Alternate Appearance to Face ID on iPhone or iPad

Step #1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step #2. Tap on Face ID & Passcode.

Tap on Settings then Face ID & Passcode on iPhone XStep #3. Enter your iPhone Passcode and tap on Set Up an Alternative Appearance.

Tap on Get Started in Face ID Set up on iPhone XStep #5. Now, ask the second person to follow the on-screen instructions. That is, position the face in the frame and then slowly move the head in a circle to show all angles of the face. Once done, tap Continue.

How to Delete Alternative Face ID

Please keep in mind that, this will remove not only the alternate appearance but yours too. After that, you will have to set up Face ID again for yourself.

Step #1. Open the Settings on your device.

Step #2. Tap on Face ID & Passcode.

Step #3. Tap on Reset Face ID.

The fact is you do not need to set up an alternate appearance in most cases. Face ID is advanced enough to continuously learn your facial changes like growing/shaving beard or mustache, different haircuts, glasses, etc.
