Apple has reportedly raised vapor chamber orders for its foldable iPhone and 20th-anniversary models ahead of a rumored September unveiling this year.

Apple may be preparing its first foldable iPhone with the same kind of advanced cooling now used in the iPhone 17 Pro. A new leak claims the company has significantly increased orders for vapor chamber components, with the foldable expected to receive them first.

According to Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the larger order may support two future projects: Apple’s book-style foldable and the 20th-anniversary iPhone models expected in 2027.

The post does not include order totals, supplier names, or other evidence. No independent source has confirmed the claim, and Apple has not announced either product. “iPhone Ultra” also remains an unofficial name used in reports and rumors.

Why a vapor chamber would fit the foldable design

A vapor chamber spreads heat away from the processor across a larger surface, helping the chip sustain performance without creating one concentrated hot spot.

Apple introduced the technology to the iPhone lineup with the iPhone 17 Pro. Its official announcement says deionized water is sealed inside a laser-welded chamber, which moves heat from the A19 Pro chip into the aluminum unibody. Apple claims that setup delivers up to 40% better sustained performance than the previous generation.

Cooling could be harder inside a foldable if the rumored design is as thin as reports suggest. Apple would need to manage a powerful chip, two displays, and a hinge while working with less internal space in each half of the phone.

Fixed Focus Digital made a similar claim in June, saying the foldable’s vapor chamber performance was strong. However, both claims come from the same leaker, so the earlier post is not independent confirmation.

Production reports are getting more concrete

The vapor chamber order claim arrives as other supply-chain reports point to the foldable moving closer to production. Samsung Display has reportedly received approval to begin foldable iPhone OLED panel production, while analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects an iPhone X-style launch strategy with a reveal before wider availability.

That context makes a component order increase plausible, but it does not prove the leak is accurate. For now, the report only suggests that Apple may be making cooling a major part of its foldable design. The final name, specifications, price, and release date remain unconfirmed.
