WhatsApp is doubling the music clip limit for Status updates to 30 seconds. The duration picker is rolling out gradually on Android and iPhone for some users.

WhatsApp is rolling out longer music clips for Status updates. The limit is increasing from 15 seconds to 30 seconds, giving users more room to share a useful part of a song instead of cutting it off too quickly.

WABetaInfo reports that the change is rolling out on Android and iPhone. It is a gradual, account-side update, so installing the latest WhatsApp version does not guarantee that the new limit will appear immediately.

The music picker now goes up to 30 seconds

WhatsApp is adding a clip-duration picker to the music editor. After choosing a song, users can select a duration of up to 30 seconds or choose a shorter option when a smaller snippet fits the Status better.

The longer limit works when adding music to a photo Status and when sharing a music-only Status. WhatsApp first introduced music in Status updates through its music catalog, and its official announcement originally described shorter music clips for photo updates.

The basic flow stays the same:

    1. Create a photo or music-only Status.
    2. Tap the music note and choose a song.
    3. Open the duration picker and select up to 30 seconds.
    4. Choose the part of the song you want, then share the Status.

    The rollout is still gradual

WABetaInfo says the feature is appearing for some users on Android and iOS. The compatible versions it identified are WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.36.1 and WhatsApp for iOS 26.35.72, but the update is controlled on WhatsApp’s servers and may not reach every account at once.

If you do not see the 30-second option, keep WhatsApp updated and check again later. The current WhatsApp Status guide for iPhone explains the existing music flow, while the latest WhatsApp tips for iPhone covers other Status tools and app features.

The change is small, but 30 seconds is enough to include a longer chorus, intro, or verse without turning a Status update into a full music stream. WhatsApp has not said when the rollout will reach every user.
