WhatsApp for Apple Watch Is Finally Happening

WhatsApp is gearing up to extend its reach to the Apple Watch. After the introduction of its iPad companion app, the messaging giant is now testing an app specifically for Apple Watch. This rollout is currently limited to select Testflight users.

Meta hasn’t delivered an official announcement regarding this development. However, WABetaInfo, a respected source for all things WhatsApp, first brought this information to light. The new Apple Watch app addresses the noticeable absence of complete WhatsApp support, which previously left users dependent on basic notifications or third-party apps.

Core WhatsApp Features Come to Your Wrist

The new Apple Watch app is set to bring essential WhatsApp functions directly to your wrist. With it, users can explore chats, read and reply to messages, send emoji responses, and share voice messages, all without having to open the app on their iPhone.

This app isn’t entirely standalone yet. It acts as a companion to the iOS version, mirroring the setup seen with the iPad app. This approach offers a more seamless and integrated messaging experience than previously available. To assist with usability, the app syncs automatically with your iPhone, removing the need for QR code scanning or manual linking.

Still Requires an iPhone for Now

Right now, the Apple Watch app relies on having an iPhone with WhatsApp installed, as it duplicates the connection, syncing messages and alerts in real time through the paired device. Although it isn’t entirely independent, this could potentially change as WhatsApp further develops its multi-device support—which already includes tablets, web browsers, and secondary phones.

No Word Yet on Public Release

Meta has not confirmed this feature in an official blog post, so there’s currently no timeline for a public release on the App Store. As it stands in Testflight, only a select group of beta testers have access. However, the beginning of testing could hint at a broader debut in the months ahead, depending on positive feedback.
