Apple may finally bring some of the Apple Watch Ultra’s signature design elements to the standard Apple Watch lineup with watchOS 27.
According to Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Apple is developing several new watch faces for watchOS 27. One of those is reportedly a simplified version of the Modular Ultra watch face that is currently exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra lineup.
A simplified version of the Modular Ultra face
The existing Modular Ultra watch face is known for its dense information layout, designed specifically for the larger display on the Apple Watch Ultra. It combines a large digital clock with multiple complications and detailed data around the edges of the screen.
According to the report, Apple’s new version for regular Apple Watches would keep the oversized clock style but simplify much of the interface.
The redesigned face is said to remove the large central complication, the smaller complication row above the clock, and the detailed bezel-based information surrounding the display. Instead, the cleaner layout would focus on a large clock front and center, with three smaller complications placed underneath it.
The move could help Apple bring the Ultra-style aesthetic to more Apple Watch users while making the design easier to read and better suited for smaller displays.
While it may not offer the same level of information density as the original Modular Ultra face, the simplified approach could still provide a more modern and glanceable experience compared to existing watch faces on standard Apple Watch models.
watchOS 27 rumors remain limited ahead of WWDC 2026
So far, rumors surrounding watchOS 27 have been relatively limited compared to the growing number of reports tied to iOS 27 and Apple’s broader AI ambitions.
Much of the recent attention has focused on Apple’s expected AI upgrades, including the rumored Gemini-powered Siri integration that could arrive with iOS 27. By comparison, very little has surfaced about Apple’s plans for the Apple Watch beyond possible interface refinements and new watch faces.
Before watchOS 27 officially arrives, Apple is also expected to introduce another new watch face through watchOS 26.5. The update will reportedly add a new Pride Luminance watch face alongside a matching Pride-themed Apple Watch band ahead of Pride Month in June.
Although new watch faces are not typically considered major software features, they remain one of the most noticeable changes for Apple Watch users because they directly affect how the device looks and feels every day.
If Gurman’s report turns out to be accurate, Apple could be preparing to extend some of the Apple Watch Ultra’s premium visual identity to the broader Apple Watch lineup without requiring users to upgrade to the more expensive hardware.
