Design: Finally Breaking Out of iPhone X’s Design

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max design

Apple might finally ditch the classic square camera bump for something bolder. Leaks show a new horizontal camera layout that spans across the back — kind of like Google’s Pixel camera bar but chunkier. It’s still unclear if the three lenses will be aligned horizontally or kept in a triangle within the longer bump.

To accommodate this change, Apple is also reportedly moving the logo further down. Leaked cases even show an open space within the MagSafe ring, hinting the logo might sit inside it.

However, after spending the last two years hyping titanium as a Pro feature, Apple might now move back to aluminum. Leaks suggest it’s because aluminum is easier to recycle and fits better with Apple’s carbon-neutral goals.

Dummy units and CAD files show an extra-thick design too — up to 8.7mm — likely to fit a bigger battery.

Display: Same Screen, But Better in Sunlight

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max display

The iPhone 17 Pro keeps the familiar 6.3-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion, but there’s one big visual upgrade: Apple is reportedly adding a new anti-reflective, scratch-resistant coating—exclusive to the Pro models. It reduces glare and also improves durability compared to the older Ceramic Shield display.

This upgrade almost didn’t happen. Earlier this year, Apple scrapped the plan due to production delays. But the latest leaks suggest we might actually get it.

There are also whispers of a smaller Dynamic Island using metalens tech, but nothing solid on that yet.

Performance: A19 Pro Chip as Expected With Upgraded 12GB RAM

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max processor

The iPhone 17 Pro will debut the A19 Pro chip, based on an enhanced 3nm N3P process. Expect better performance and battery efficiency, though not the 2nm leap — that’s saved for iPhone 18 Pro.

However, RAM is getting a bump to 12GB, up from 8GB. While it’s mainly for running Apple Intelligence smoothly, it’s also great for gaming, editing reels, or doing anything that demands more memory.

Camera: Triple 48MP Setup, But Reduced Zoom

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max camera

The Pro lineup might finally go all-in on 48MP across all three rear lenses – main, telephoto and ultra wide.

However, this new 48MP telephoto is said to offer 3.5x optical zoom (down from 5x), likely because of space and sensor balancing. But with more resolution, Apple could simulate 5x zoom digitally — similar to how the 2x crop works now.

Other leaks suggest a variable aperture for the main wide lens, letting users tweak background blur manually. And dual video recording (front + back) might finally come to the stock Camera app — perfect for vloggers and FaceTime demos.

On the front, every iPhone 17 model will reportedly get a 24MP selfie cam — doubling the resolution from iPhone 16.

Battery: Bigger Cell, Better Cooling

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max battery

The iPhone 17 Pro Max could pack a 5,000mAh battery, a big upgrade from the 3,582mAh found in the iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple is also testing vapor chamber cooling for better thermal performance during heavy use. Leaked images even show the copper plate that could be part of this new system.

There’s also talk of reverse wireless charging — it’s not confirmed yet, but Apple reportedly tested 7.5W output to juice up your AirPods or Apple Watch by placing them on the back of your iPhone.

Colors: Copper-Orange Will Likely Stand Out

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max colors

Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Pro will come in several colors, including one bold new shade:

  • Copper-orange
  • Black
  • Gray
  • Silver
  • Dynamic White

Leaks also suggested that Dynamic White may shift appearance with lighting and can be closer to iOS 26’s Liquid Glass look.

A Sky Blue option was also rumored earlier for the Pro, but leaks now say it may be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Air instead.

Connectivity: Same Modem, Better Wireless

While the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to use Apple’s custom 5G modem, the Pro models will stick with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 — which supports mmWave and sub-6GHz. These models will also feature Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, powered by Apple’s new custom wireless chip.

Pricing and Release Date: September Launch, But Possible Price Bump

Iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 lineup in the week of September 8. But pricing might see a bump this year. With possible tariffs and more expensive parts, Apple could price the iPhone 17 Pro above the $999 starting point of its predecessor. However, exactly details are not available yet.

‘Liquid Glass’ iPhone 17 Pro Color Might Tie Into iOS 26 Design

July 17, 2025

Leaker Instant Digital claims Apple is working on a special iPhone 17 Pro color inspired by iOS 26’s “Liquid Glass” aesthetic. It’s said to look like white but subtly shifts based on lighting—hinting at a dynamic finish. While the color hasn’t been seen yet, this matches earlier rumors and could be Apple’s most unique Pro color to date.

Scratch-Resistant Display Back on Track for iPhone 17 Pro

July 16, 2025

Apple has reportedly fixed production issues with its new anti-reflective, scratch-resistant display layer—clearing the way for it to appear on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The tech was previously rumored to be scrapped, but a MacRumors source now says suppliers can meet demand. Standard iPhone 17 models are expected to miss out on this upgrade.

Internal Leak Confirms All iPhone 17 Pro Color Options

July 16, 2025

Macworld’s Filipe Espósito claims to have seen an internal Apple document listing every iPhone 17 Pro color—including black, white, gray, dark blue, and a bold new orange. The leak backs up earlier tips from Sonny Dickson and Majin Bu, making this the third source to confirm the same palette. At this point, the lineup looks all but locked.

iPhone 17 Pro Tipped to Come in Bold New Orange Color

July 14, 2025

Leaker Sonny Dickson shared images of iPhone 17 Pro lens covers in five shades—black, gray, silver, dark blue, and a striking new orange. While the others resemble past finishes, the orange cover hints at a bold copper-like color never seen on an iPhone before. If accurate, this could be the Pro lineup’s most unique color yet.

Sky Blue Now Expected for iPhone 17 Air, Not the Pro

July 14, 2025

Majin Bu now says the Sky Blue finish—once rumored for iPhone 17 Pro—will instead be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Air. The Pro might stick with a darker blue, possibly reviving the Blue Titanium from the iPhone 15 Pro. Other colors like Black, Silver, and Gold are also tipped for the Air.

iPhone 17 Pro With BOE Displays Reportedly Limited to China

July 10, 2025

According to Jukan Choi, Apple has approved BOE’s OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro—but only for units sold in China. This follows BOE’s long effort to regain Apple’s trust after a 2022 design scandal. Samsung and LG will continue supplying displays globally, keeping BOE’s reach strictly regional for now.

iPhone 17 Pro May Get a Redesigned Dynamic Island UI

July 7, 2025

Digital Chat Station says Apple is revamping the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 17 lineup with a new UI, possibly exclusive to iOS 26. Renders Shows Lower Apple Logo and Tweaked MagSafe Ring

July 6, 2025

New iPhone 17 Pro renders from Majin Bu show the Apple logo repositioned lower into a new glass cutout on the back. To accommodate this, Apple is tweaking the MagSafe ring with a visible gap, so the logo stays exposed when using clear cases. The redesign also includes an iPad-style aluminum frame wrapping around the new camera bar.

New MagSafe Layout and Lower Apple Logo Leak for iPhone 17 Pro

July 2, 2025

A leaked photo shared by Majin Bu shows a tweaked MagSafe magnet layout for iPhone 17 Pro, featuring a gap in the usual ring design. The change seems aesthetic, likely to keep the Apple logo visible with cases, as it’s reportedly moving lower due to a larger camera bump. Existing MagSafe accessories should still work.

Vapor Chamber Cooling Rumor Gets Photo Backing for iPhone 17 Pro

June 22, 2025

Leaker Majin Bu shared an alleged photo of the iPhone 17 Pro’s vapor chamber cooling plate, reigniting earlier rumors from January. The system is designed to manage heat better than graphite sheets, potentially boosting performance during gaming or intense workloads. If true, this would be a first for any iPhone model.

Google Mocks iPhone 17’s Rumored Camera Bar in Pixel Ad

May 6, 2025

Google took a shot at Apple in a new Pixel 9 Pro ad, poking fun at iPhone 17 rumors—specifically the horizontal camera bar design. The ad, styled as a podcast between Pixel and iPhone, claims Apple is once again copying Pixel’s look. It comes just as dummy units of the iPhone 17 Pro and Air suggest a very Pixel-like rear layout.

Apple Reportedly Cancels Scratch-Resistant Display for iPhone 17 Pro

April 28, 2025

The super scratch-resistant anti-reflective coating planned for the iPhone 17 Pro has reportedly been scrapped due to manufacturing delays. According to MacRumors, Apple couldn’t scale the new display tech for mass production. The feature was first tipped by Instant Digital last year.

iPhone 17 Pro May Come in Stunning Sky Blue Shade

April 22, 2025

Leaker Majin Bu claims the iPhone 17 Pro will be available in a new Sky Blue color—just like the one used on the M4 MacBook Air. He says Apple has tested multiple prototypes, but this soft, metallic blue is the current favorite. Bu previously nailed the Desert Titanium color ahead of launch.

iPhone 17 Pro Case Leak Confirms Massive Camera Bar Redesign

April 9, 2025

Sonny Dickson shared photos of iPhone 17 Pro cases showing a huge horizontal cutout for the rear camera, backing up previous design leaks. The layout ditches the classic square bump for a Pixel-style camera bar, with a more symmetrical lens and sensor arrangement. It’s the clearest look yet at Apple’s big rear design shift.

Dual Video Recording May Be Coming to iPhone 17 Pro

April 8, 2025

Jon Prosser says the iPhone 17 Pro could let you record from both front and rear cameras at once—right from the default Camera app. While third-party apps already do this, Apple is reportedly baking it into iOS for the first time. The feature was teased in a Front Page Tech video showcasing alleged iOS 19 changes.

iPhone 17 Pro Camera Bar to Match Device Color, Says Gurman

April 7, 2025

Despite its new horizontal camera design, the iPhone 17 Pro won’t go two-tone. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the camera bar will match the rest of the phone’s color, unlike some renders floating online. Gurman adds that aside from this Pixel-style camera shift, the overall design won’t be a dramatic departure.

iPhone 17 Pro Again Rumored to Get 48MP 3.5x Telephoto Lens

April 3, 2025

Majin Bu claims the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a 48MP telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom—backing previous reports. While it’s a step down from the 5x in current Pro Max models, the higher resolution could allow for better digital zoom, especially for portraits. Apple may be leaning on computational photography over pure optics this time.

iPhone 17 Pro Dummy Leak Shows New Half-Glass, Half-Aluminum Design

March 20, 2025

Leaker Sonny Dickson shared new iPhone 17 Pro dummies showing a major design shift—Apple is reportedly ditching titanium for a hybrid part-glass, part-aluminum back. According to Fixed Focus Digital, this design keeps wireless charging intact while improving durability. It’s also the clearest look yet at the horizontal camera bar in physical form.

Machined Chassis Leak Shows iPhone 17 Pro’s Bold Camera Bar Is Real

March 13, 2025

Leaker Majin Bu shared images of freshly milled iPhone 17 Pro Max parts that confirm Apple’s shift to a horizontal camera bar. The components match earlier rumors, with large cutouts possibly for MagSafe, bigger batteries, or even reverse wireless charging. The leak adds weight to reports of a part-glass, part-aluminum build.

iPhone 17 Pro to Get Vapor Chamber Cooling for Stable Performance

March 12, 2025

Leaker Instant Digital says the iPhone 17 Pro will use vapor chamber cooling to keep the A19 Pro chip running at top speed without overheating. While earlier reports hinted all models might get it, Instant Digital claims it’s limited to the Pro and Pro Max. This should help reduce throttling during heavy tasks.

CAD Leak Agrees With iPhone 17 Pro’s New Camera Bar Design

February 28, 2025

Leaker Sonny Dickson shared CAD renders of the iPhone 17 Pro, and they match earlier rumors of a dramatic camera redesign. The Pro model appears to drop the familiar square bump for a wide aluminum bar stretching across the back. The triple cameras remain on the left, while the flash, LiDAR, and mic shift to the right in a vertical layout.

iPhone 17 Pro’s 12GB RAM Rumor Gets Third Confirmation from Jeff Pu

February 27, 2025

Analyst Jeff Pu has doubled down for a third time on his claim that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature 12GB of RAM. iPhone 17 Pro to Focus Heavily on Video Upgrades

February 24, 2025

Mark Gurman says Apple will spotlight video recording improvements on the iPhone 17 Pro this year—more than usual. This marks a shift from Apple’s usual photo-first camera marketing.

iPhone 17 Pro May Finally Get Wireless Reverse Charging

February 19, 2025

Leaker Instant Digital says Apple has tested 7.5W wireless reverse charging for the iPhone 17 Pro. If enabled, it could let you wirelessly charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or even a new MagSafe Battery Pack. While Apple has tried limited reverse charging before, this would be the first time it’s done wirelessly—though Instant Digital warns it’s still unclear if the feature will ship.

iPhone 17 Pro Tipped to Support 35W Wired Charging

February 18, 2025

Jeff Pu says the entire iPhone 17 lineup—including the Pro—will support up to 35W wired charging, which is only a small bump over last year’s models. That means we might not see much of a real-world speed upgrade. Apple already hit similar peak speeds with iPhone 16 Pro, so expectations for faster charging may fall flat.

iPhone 17 Pro Frame Still in Doubt as Pu Backs Aluminum Over Titanium

February 18, 2025

Jeff Pu has joined Wayne Ma in claiming that the iPhone 17 Pro will move to an aluminum frame, likely for environmental reasons. This adds weight to earlier reports of Apple ditching titanium in favor of a lighter, greener build. However, leaker Instant Digital recently pushed back, insisting the Pro model will retain titanium—arguing Apple wouldn’t walk back a premium upgrade so soon. The material choice remains one of the most debated changes this year.

iPhone 17 Pro Render Shows Bold New Camera Bar Design

February 18, 2025

Front Page Tech’s 3D artist Asher shared a new render of the iPhone 17 Pro based on leaks and insider details. It keeps the classic triangle lens layout but places everything inside a larger rectangular camera bar with rounded edges. The flash, LiDAR, and mic now sit vertically on the right, and the camera bar has a darker tone than the rest of the phone. Prosser says he’s seen the device himself, though it’s unclear if the change is functional or just for looks.

iPhone 17 Pro Won’t Get Smaller Dynamic Island

January 24, 2025

Despite earlier leaks, Kuo now says the Dynamic Island on iPhone 17 Pro won’t be getting smaller. Jeff Pu had previously claimed a new metalens system could shrink it, but Kuo expects the design to stay “largely unchanged.”

iPhone 17 Pro May Get Vapor Chamber Cooling for Better Performance

January 17, 2025

Chinese site MyDrivers claims the iPhone 17 Pro will adopt a vapor chamber heatsink, a first for iPhones. Previously, Kuo said only the Pro Max might get it, making this leak even more interesting.

iPhone 17 Pro to Feature Triple 48MP Camera Setup

January 10, 2025

According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 17 Pro will get a full 48MP camera system—including an upgraded Tetraprism telephoto lens. That means all three rear cameras (main, ultra-wide, and zoom) will finally match in resolution. Previously, both Kuo and Pu expected this upgrade only in the Pro Max model, not the Pro.

iPhone 17 Pro to Feature Smoother Camera Bump With New Material Process

January 6, 2025

Fixed Focus Digital claims Apple is using a new glass-metal splicing technique to make the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera bump flow more seamlessly into the back. The transition will be sloped, not stepped, creating a smoother, more polished look. The design shift could also tie into Apple’s rumored move from titanium to aluminum for the Pro models.

iPhone 17 Pro May Keep Triangular Camera Layout After All

December 18, 2024

Despite recent buzz about a horizontal camera bar, leaker Instant Digital says the iPhone 17 Pro will retain the familiar triangular triple-camera layout. While the overall back design is still expected to change—with a rectangular aluminum bump—the core camera arrangement might stay the same.

iPhone 17 Pro May Feature Pixel Style Camera Module

December 12, 2024

A new leak from Digital Chat Station backs up The Information’s earlier report that iPhone 17 Pro will feature a bold new rear design—with an elongated, aluminum camera bump replacing the familiar square layout. The leaker says supply chain materials show a Pixel-style horizontal camera module is in the works, marking one of the biggest camera design changes since the iPhone 11.

Another Leaker Says iPhone 17 Pro Could Stick With Titanium Frame

December 2, 2024

Leaker Instant Digital claims the iPhone 17 Pro will continue using a titanium chassis, contradicting earlier reports of a shift to aluminum. While no supply chain proof was shared, Instant Digital has a decent track record with Apple leaks.

Design Leak Suggests Pro Models may Shift Back to Aluminum Frame

November 25, 2024

According to The Information’s Wayne Ma, Apple is reportedly bringing aluminum back to the iPhone 17 Pro lineup—ditching titanium for a lighter build. The Pro models are also said to feature a striking part-glass, part-aluminum back and a larger rectangular camera bump made from aluminum instead of glass. If true, this would mark the most dramatic design shift for high-end iPhones in years.

iPhone 17 Pro Models May Get Electrically Removable Batteries

October 10, 2024

Leaker Majin Bu claims the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will adopt Apple’s new electrically activated adhesive, making battery removal easier than ever. This tech debuted on iPhone 16 and 16 Plus but skipped the Pro models. If true, all iPhone 17 models will support this new removal method—using a 9V battery or USB-C charger to loosen the glue.

Under-Display Face ID No Longer Expected on iPhone 17 Pro

September 20, 2024

Display analyst Ross Young has walked back his earlier claim, now saying the iPhone 17 Pro will not feature under-display Face ID after all. His previous post was reportedly sent in error. That means the Dynamic Island design is likely sticking around for at least another year—despite earlier roadmaps suggesting otherwise.

Kuo Says 12GB RAM Likely Exclusive to iPhone 17 Pro Max

August 28, 2024

Just a day after a leak suggested the entire iPhone 17 lineup could get 12GB RAM, Ming-Chi Kuo claims the bump will be exclusive to the Pro Max model. That means the smaller iPhone 17 Pro may still ship with 8GB, like the iPhone 16 Pro. Kuo also noted the Pro Max will get a better cooling system, while the Pro will stick with standard graphite sheets.

iPhone 17 Pro to Get 12GB RAM for Better On-Device AI

August 28, 2024

According to Weibo leaker Phone Chip Expert, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature 12GB of RAM—up from 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro. This boost is aimed at supporting more advanced on-device AI features, unlike the iPhone 16, which still relies heavily on cloud processing. The tipster has a strong track record, making this upgrade a likely bet for Apple’s 2025 Pro lineup.

iPhone 17 Pro’s 24MP Selfie Camera Rumor Gains More Credibility

August 2, 2024

Analyst Jeff Pu now backs earlier claims from Ming-Chi Kuo that all iPhone 17 models—including the Pro—will feature a 24MP front camera with a six-element lens. That’s double the resolution of current models and should improve detail, clarity, and cropping flexibility. Pu shared the info in a new note for Haitong, making this upgrade seem even more likely.

iPhone 17 Pro Max to Get Triple 48MP Cameras, Pro May Miss Out

July 25, 2024

Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be Apple’s first with all three rear cameras upgraded to 48MP—including a new Tetraprism telephoto lens for sharper zoom and Vision Pro-ready spatial video. While the iPhone 17 Pro could still get the 48MP ultra-wide, it may stick with a lower-res telephoto. Kuo notes the improved Tetraprism system uses a compact design and may stay exclusive to the Pro Max until 2026.

iPhone 17 Pro to Feature LTPO Display and A19 Pro Chip

July 22, 2024

Ice Universe shared new specs for the iPhone 17 Pro, confirming a 6.27-inch LTPO display with ProMotion and Apple’s new A19 Pro chip built on TSMC’s N3P process. The Pro model is also expected to pack 12GB RAM and a triple 48MP rear camera system—marking solid upgrades over the iPhone 16 lineup.

iPhone 17 Pro May Get Scratch-Resistant Anti-Reflective Glass

March 19, 2024

A leak from Chinese tipster Instant Digital claims the iPhone 17 series will feature a new “super-hard” anti-reflective coating, making it tougher than the current Ceramic Shield. The tech reportedly just entered production in China and won’t make it in time for the iPhone 16. It could rival Samsung’s Gorilla Glass Armor seen on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

iPhone 17 Pro May Get a Sharper 24MP Selfie Camera

January 4, 2024

Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is finally upgrading its front camera to 24MP on the iPhone 17 lineup—double the current resolution. It’ll also use a six-element lens for better clarity and low-light shots. iPhone 17 Pro Tipped to Use Apple’s Own Wi-Fi 7 Chip

December 15, 2023

This custom chip could unlock blazing-fast speeds and lower latency by using all three Wi-Fi bands simultaneously. Pu believes it’s part of Apple’s broader push to bring wireless components in-house—similar to its modem efforts. The leak came via Haitong International Securities.

A19 Pro Chip for iPhone 17 Pro to Use Advanced 3nm Tech

November 18, 2024

Jeff Pu reports the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro will be built using TSMC’s third-gen 3nm process (N3P), offering better performance and efficiency than the A18 Pro in iPhone 16. It’s a refined version of the current chip tech, promising tighter transistor density and more power savings.

iPhone 17 Pro Could Be First With Under-Display Face ID

April 3, 2023

Display analyst Ross Young claims the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first to feature Face ID hidden under the screen. However, a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera will still remain—at least until 2027. Young had originally expected this tech in the iPhone 16 Pro, but sensor issues reportedly caused a delay. The leak was shared via his updated roadmap on Twitter.
