Instagram is adding a new AI-driven tool to its Edits app, focusing on making video creation more accessible.
The new feature allows users to generate video clips using text prompts, images, or existing video inputs, making it possible to create content without recording footage directly.
How AI video creation works in Edits
According to Instagram’s Help Center, users can access the feature by tapping the plus icon inside Edits and selecting the AI option.
From there, they can enter a description of the video they want to generate. You can also bring in photos or videos from your camera roll if you want to shape the result a bit more instead of relying only on text.
Once everything’s set, the app generates a video based on what you’ve given it. The whole process leans more on describing what you want rather than shooting it yourself, while still letting you guide the final output with your own media.
Part of Meta’s larger AI strategy
Meta has been actively investing in generative AI, and this feature fits into that broader direction.
The company previously reported that AI-generated video creation increased significantly toward the end of 2025. However, that growth came alongside the introduction of new AI features like its Vibes feed, which makes it harder to measure organic adoption.
Meta has also experimented with standalone AI video experiences in select markets, suggesting continued interest in pushing AI-driven creation tools further.
Bringing this capability into Edits indicates a more structured approach, where AI tools are positioned within a dedicated creation app rather than being directly embedded into Instagram’s main interface.
At the same time, as these tools become more widely available, they are likely to increase the volume of AI-generated content across Instagram’s feeds.
