Google Health is adding the missing half of its Apple Health connection on iPhone: the app can now send health and fitness data back to Apple Health. According to Google’s version 5.05 announcement, the update began rolling out on August 3 and will reach devices in phases over the following week.
Until now, the connection worked in one direction. Google Health could import data from an iPhone, Apple Watch, and other apps connected to Apple Health, but it could not write Fitbit data back. The update is especially useful for people using a Fitbit Air with an iPhone who want Apple’s Health app to remain their main dashboard.
What Google Health can send to Apple Health
Google lists exercise records, steps, vitals, and sleep among the data that can flow from Google Health to Apple Health. The company says more categories are supported, but it has not published a complete output list for version 5.05.
After installing the update, tap your profile icon in Google Health, select Partner apps, and choose Apple Health. Follow the setup prompts if you are connecting for the first time, or tap Review permissions to add write access to an existing connection.
Once permitted, supported Fitbit data can appear alongside information from an Apple Watch, iPhone, and other sources in the Health app’s combined view. You control which categories Google Health can write, so it is worth enabling only the metrics you want to share.
The rollout is phased, and Google’s help page is behind
Google says version 5.05 is rolling out over a week, depending on the device and carrier. The current App Store listing requires iOS 16.4 or later, so some users may not see the new option immediately even if an update is available.
There is also a documentation mismatch. Google’s Apple Health help page still says the app can only read data and that write support is coming later in 2026. The August 3 announcement and the newer App Store release notes confirm that writing to Apple Health is now part of version 5.05.
Because this involves sensitive health data, the transfer does not start until you grant Apple Health permissions. You can review or change them later in the Health app under Sharing > Apps > Google Health.
Version 5.05 also introduces Smart Health Links in the U.S., allowing users to share selected medical-record summaries with a healthcare provider or family member. Google cautions that these summaries are not intended for medical purposes or as a replacement for official clinical records.
