WhatsApp Web May Soon Let Users Manage Call Notifications

WhatsApp is reportedly gearing up to add a new feature allowing users to manage voice and video call notifications directly through WhatsApp Web. According to a report from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp Web introduces a toggle specifically for controlling these notifications within the settings panel.

With WhatsApp moving towards supporting calls via its web client, this adjustment suggests a wider expansion of notification management options on WhatsApp Web.

Call Alerts Expected to Be Enabled by Default

When this functionality becomes available to everyone, call notifications are anticipated to be switched on by default. Much like the mobile and desktop versions of WhatsApp, incoming calls will prompt browser notifications, even if the chat window isn’t open. This helps users notice calls while engaged in other tabs or applications.

Moreover, users are free to toggle call notifications on or off, depending on personal preferences. This is particularly useful for those who prefer handling calls on their phone or simply use the web version for messaging during office hours.

It’s important to clarify that disabling call notifications on the web client doesn’t equate to blocking calls outright. It merely stops browser alerts from showing up.

Web and Mobile Notification Settings Will Remain Separate

The settings for call notifications on WhatsApp Web will remain entirely independent from those on mobile devices. Changes made on the web won’t affect how notifications behave on iPhone or Android, and vice versa.

End-to-End Encryption Remains Intact

This new feature is being developed with user privacy at the forefront. Therefore, all voice and video communications on WhatsApp Web will maintain their end-to-end encryption. By utilizing the Signal Protocol, WhatsApp ensures that only the participants of a call have access to its content.

Even when originating from a web browser, neither WhatsApp nor any third-party entities will have the ability to eavesdrop or access the encrypted data.

Voice and Video Calling Support Still in Development
