WhatsApp has officially rolled out its native Apple CarPlay app, making it easier to manage messages and calls directly from your car’s dashboard.
The feature was first spotted in beta testing via TestFlight by WABetaInfo last week. Now, with the latest iOS update, it’s available to everyone through the App Store. Unlike the earlier experience that relied heavily on Siri, this update introduces a proper in-car interface.
How WhatsApp works on CarPlay

The CarPlay app keeps things minimal and distraction-free. Instead of offering a full chat interface, it focuses on quick access to essential features.
You’ll see three main sections:
- Recent chats: Displays conversations with unread messages so you can quickly stay updated. Full chat browsing is intentionally limited to reduce distractions.
- Call history: Shows incoming, outgoing, and missed calls in one place, with the option to quickly return calls.
- Favorite contacts: Lets you message or call frequently contacted people without navigating through your entire contact list.
This simplified layout ensures you can interact with WhatsApp safely while driving.

What’s new compared to before
Previously, using WhatsApp on CarPlay meant relying almost entirely on Siri. While functional, it wasn’t always reliable or efficient. You couldn’t view chats, access call logs, or browse contacts directly.
The new native app improves this by bringing key features to the screen in a clean, easy-to-use interface. It reduces dependence on voice commands while still keeping interactions simple and safe.
Importantly, messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted, so privacy isn’t affected.
This update also reflects a broader trend of apps expanding their presence on CarPlay. However, unlike some newer integrations that remain voice-only, WhatsApp now offers a proper on-screen experience.
Availability
The native CarPlay experience is available with the latest version of WhatsApp on iOS. Once updated, the app will automatically appear on your CarPlay dashboard when your iPhone is connected.
