Meta updates Threads for iPhone with reply approvals and new activity feed filters, giving users more control and a cleaner, safer conversation experience.
Meta is enhancing its Threads app on iPhone with two features designed to improve user control over conversations and reply visibility. The update now includes reply approvals as well as new filters in the Activity tab. These tools aim to make the app more user-friendly and focused.
The standout addition is the Reply Approvals feature. This gives Threads users the ability to review and approve replies before they appear on their posts. Unapproved replies are kept out of public view but can be revisited later in an Ignored tab if users decide to approve them at a later time.
According to Meta, this feature is intended to help users maintain relevant discussions and cut down on inappropriate comments. It’s accessible when making a post, right where options for who can reply or quote your post are located. This is another step in ensuring discussions remain respectful and within users’ control before they go live.
Building on previous moderation tools like hiding offensive or spam replies, these updates showcase Meta’s intent to offer users a safer and more personalized space for interaction.

Threads is not stopping there. It also introduces new filters in the Activity tab, namely Mentions and People You Follow. These join the existing filters like All, Follows, Conversations, Reposts, and Verified, simplifying the tracking of important interactions.
For instance, if you prefer seeing replies exclusively from friends or followed accounts, the new filter facilitates this with just one tap. Meanwhile, the Mentions filter helps ensure you don’t overlook direct interactions pointing to your profile or posts.
Meta states that these features are rolling out gradually on iPhone and are likely to extend to other platforms soon. They’re also continually collecting user feedback to further refine the Threads experience.
Introduced in 2023 as Meta’s counterpart to X (previously Twitter), Threads has grown quickly, boasting over 150 million daily active users. Over time, the app has seen updates like post editing, secret replies, fediverse sharing, and extended text limits. The latest improvements strengthen a pattern of focusing on user autonomy and interaction quality.
These changes underscore Meta’s ongoing efforts to make Threads a platform where users can freely express themselves while deciding what content is visible on their profiles.
