Siri on iOS 27 no longer needs “on Spotify” on newer iPhones

Spotify users on iOS 27 can ask Siri for music without adding “on Spotify.” It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on.

Spotify users can ask Siri for music on iOS 27 without adding "on Spotify" at the end. TechCrunch reports that Spotify announced the change on October 13. It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on.

Siri learns which app you use

Siri learns this on its own. If you keep using Spotify, Siri starts sending your audio requests there. That covers specific tracks, albums, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with broader requests like "play workout music." It also handles Spotify features such as "play my DJ," resuming a podcast, searching your library, and making an AI Prompted Playlist.

Spotify’s reason, as TechCrunch paraphrases it, is that people shouldn’t have to word a request around an app name. Dropping the extra words makes hands-free listening feel more natural. The reporting doesn’t describe a setting for picking a default music app. If Siri plays from a different app, you still have to say "on Spotify."

Apple Music is getting its own Siri AI upgrade in iOS 27, which adds conversational requests about artists and songs. Spotify’s change only affects how you start a request.

The fix stops at iPhone 15 Pro

Apple Intelligence sets the minimum. The oldest iPhones that qualify are the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13 don’t get the feature, even on iOS 27. Anyone on those phones still has to say "on Spotify."

Siri AI’s launch covers English and eight countries

Apple’s Siri AI launch list covers English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. Siri AI isn’t initially available in the EU on iOS or iPadOS.

Spotify’s help text describes the no-suffix version as English-only, and says Siri with Apple Intelligence isn’t available in every country yet. TechCrunch describes the feature as global for eligible users, with the EU excluded. Those accounts don’t match, so Apple’s list is the safer guide.

If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or newer and listen in English, try a request without the phrase. Everyone else still needs it.
