Apple has officially introduced its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, alongside a new M6-powered iMac. The new laptop brings faster graphics, improved AI performance, enhanced battery life, and advanced wireless capabilities.
The M6 model retains the Liquid Retina XDR display and familiar MacBook Pro design. Pre-orders open October 28, with prices starting at $1,999.
M6 chip brings faster performance and AI capabilities
At the heart of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro is Apple’s M6 chip, featuring a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores each than the M5. As per Apple, the new processor is built to handle everyday tasks and demanding professional applications, such as software development, 3D rendering, and AI-powered workflows.
Compared with the M5, the M6 offers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster AI workloads. It also features Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. According to Apple, the M6 speeds up project build performance in Xcode and LLM prompt processing by up to 1.3x compared with the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5.
Apple also equipped the chip with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, up to 1.9x faster than the M5, to support AI features across macOS. This includes running large language models locally, allowing supported AI workloads to run directly on the Mac rather than relying entirely on cloud processing.
Memory and storage get an upgrade
The 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard and is customizable to 32GB. Memory bandwidth goes up to 170GB/s, which makes it capable of running demanding applications, large projects, and multiple workloads more efficiently.
The new model starts with a 1TB SSD, double the 512GB the 14-inch M5 model offered at launch.
Familiar design with a Liquid Retina XDR display
Apple retained the 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, which offers high contrast, detailed visuals, and HDR support. The display reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and provides a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
Users can also configure the MacBook Pro with an optional nano-texture display finish designed to reduce reflections in bright environments. It could be helpful for professionals who have to work under studio lights or near a window.
The laptop retains a premium aluminum body in Space Black and Silver. While the M6 brings significant internal improvements, Apple has kept the familiar design.
Connectivity, camera, and audio features
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, supporting newer wireless standards when paired with compatible networks and accessories.
Physical ports include:
- Three Thunderbolt 4 ports
- An HDMI port
- An SDXC card slot
- MagSafe 3 charging
- A headphone jack
The laptop also supports up to two external displays, making it suitable for multi-monitor workstations.
For video calls, Apple retains a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support. The laptop also includes a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio and a studio-quality three-microphone array.
These features make the MacBook Pro suitable not only for creative production and software development but also for remote meetings, presentations, and content creation.
Battery life reaches up to 24 hours
According to Apple, the new MacBook Pro can last up to 24 hours on a single charge. This is the longest battery life Apple has advertised for a Mac, though actual runtime depends on workload, settings, and configuration.
The laptop also supports fast charging. With a compatible 96W USB-C power adapter, Apple says users can charge the battery to approximately 50% in around 30 minutes.
For people who work away from a desk, the combination of improved performance per watt and long battery life could be one of the most practical benefits of the M6 upgrade.
macOS 27 and Apple Intelligence
The new MacBook Pro runs macOS 27 Golden Gate, which brings Apple’s latest software features and AI capabilities to the laptop.
Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are designed to help users work with information across supported apps, assist with writing, and perform certain tasks more efficiently. Siri AI is currently available in beta in macOS 27.2 in supported languages. The M6’s Neural Engine and GPU-based Neural Accelerators provide additional hardware support for compatible AI workloads.
The ability to run supported large language models locally may also appeal to developers and users who want to experiment with AI tools while keeping certain processing tasks on their own devices.
MacBook Pro M6 price and availability
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 in the United States, with education pricing starting at $1,899 for eligible customers. The base configuration includes 16GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD, while higher configurations offer up to 32GB of memory and 4TB of storage.
Pre-orders begin Wednesday, October 28, and the laptop will be available in stores and begin arriving to customers on Friday, November 6.
In India, the starting price is ₹2,39,900, with an education price of ₹2,27,900 for eligible students. Indian pre-orders also begin October 28, with availability starting November 6.
