Apple’s first foldable iPhone is still unannounced, but the shape of it is starting to look less mysterious. A new 10-minute Unbox Therapy video shows a close-up look at a dummy unit that lines up with recent reports about the device, including its passport-like folded shape and wider tablet-style layout when opened.
The device is increasingly expected to launch as the iPhone Ultra, according to recent reporting from Macworld. The name would make sense for a product that sits above the Pro line and introduces a new form factor for Apple, though the company has not confirmed anything yet.
The dummy unit shown in the video is not a working phone, and its hinge should not be treated as a preview of Apple’s final hardware. The useful part is the physical layout. It gives a clearer idea of how Apple’s foldable could feel in a pocket, how wide it may be in one hand, where the buttons could sit, and how much space the camera bump may take up.
The dummy unit points to a compact foldable with a wider feel
The unit measures 117 mm tall, 84.27 mm wide, and 11.02 mm thick when closed without the camera bump. With the camera bump included, the thickness rises to 16.57 mm. When opened, the device is about 5.2 mm thick.
Those numbers suggest Apple may be aiming for a foldable that feels shorter than a normal iPhone when closed, but noticeably wider. That matches the recent wave of leaks pointing to a passport-style outer shape rather than a tall, narrow foldable design.
When opened, the device appears closer to a small tablet than a stretched phone. That is likely the real pitch for Apple: a pocketable iPhone that opens into a larger canvas for reading, watching video, multitasking, and using apps with more breathing room.
The video also shows the dummy unit wobbling on a table because of the large rear camera bump, both when closed and opened. That detail may change before launch, but it is a reminder that Apple still has to balance thinness, cameras, battery, and durability in a product category where every millimeter matters.
The hardware is still rumor, but the form factor is becoming clearer
This dummy unit follows a recent image from leaker Sonny Dickson, who showed what was said to be an iPhone Fold dummy alongside dummy units of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Together, the leaks suggest Apple’s foldable is moving from vague concept to something with a fairly consistent physical direction.

The biggest unknown remains the hinge. A dummy unit can show shape, size, and ergonomics, but it cannot show the part that will matter most on a foldable phone. Apple’s final hinge design, screen crease, durability, weight distribution, and software experience will decide whether this feels like a premium iPhone or an expensive experiment.
For now, the Unbox Therapy video gives the best close-up sense yet of what Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be: a compact phone when closed, a mini tablet when opened, and possibly the first iPhone in years that changes how the device physically works in daily use.
