Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone has reportedly hit a minor production delay, but its expected launch timeline remains unchanged.
According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple has pushed back the start of mass production by one to two months. The company was initially targeting June 2026, but production is now expected to begin in early August. Despite this shift, Apple is still aiming for a fall 2026 release, which suggests a tighter production schedule.
Testing delays, but no major concerns
The delay appears to be linked to ongoing testing. The device is currently in the engineering validation phase, a stage where timelines often slip slightly. While there have been mentions of potential manufacturing challenges, no major issues have surfaced so far.
Reports around the launch timeline remain mixed. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests the foldable iPhone could arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup or shortly after. Meanwhile, Nikkei Asia has hinted at a possible delay to 2027.
For now, the most likely scenario sits in between. Apple still needs to complete Design Validation Testing (DVT) and Production Validation Testing (PVT) before moving into full-scale production. However, earlier reports indicate that trial production is already underway, signaling steady progress.
Even if Apple meets its 2026 timeline, initial availability could be limited. Early production delays often lead to constrained supply, which may result in quick sell-outs during the first wave.
The foldable iPhone is expected to be priced between $2,000 and $2,500. It may feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner display when unfolded, marking Apple’s first entry into the foldable smartphone category.
