Apple’s next Pro iPhones may bring a bigger battery story than expected, especially on the Pro Max model.
Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station says Chinese 3C certification information for Apple’s battery suppliers points to larger cells for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The smaller Pro model looks like a modest increase, while the Pro Max could get a much more noticeable jump.
The claimed numbers break down like this:
| Model | China battery | U.S. battery | Change vs iPhone 17 equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro | 4,056mAh | 4,288mAh | +68mAh / +36mAh |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 5,391mAh | 5,567mAh | +568mAh / +479mAh |
That would put the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max above 5,500mAh, up from the reported 5,088mAh battery in the U.S. iPhone 17 Pro Max. The China version would also move well past 5,000mAh, up from 4,823mAh.
The iPhone 18 Pro story is quieter. Its leaked capacity is only slightly higher than the iPhone 17 Pro, which means any real battery-life improvement would likely depend more on chip efficiency, modem changes, display tuning, and iOS behavior than on battery size alone.
The Pro Max number needs caution
Digital Chat Station did not present the Pro Max jump as a locked-in Apple spec. The post itself says the nearly 500mAh increase should be treated with doubt until verified.
That caveat matters. These devices are not announced, Apple has not confirmed the names or battery capacities, and certification listings can be hard to map cleanly to final retail models before launch.
Still, the numbers line up with the broader rumor pattern around Apple’s high-end iPhones. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to use the A20 Pro chip, and earlier reporting around standard iPhone 18 RAM already pointed to Apple keeping a clearer hardware gap between regular, Pro, and foldable models.
Why U.S. and China capacities differ
The leaked list gives different capacities for China and U.S. models. That is not new for Apple. Recent U.S. iPhones have leaned harder into eSIM-only designs, while models in some other regions continue to account for physical SIM hardware.
Removing the SIM tray can free up internal space, which is why the U.S. version of each leaked model has the larger listed capacity. It is a small difference on the iPhone 18 Pro, but it becomes more noticeable on the Pro Max.
In a follow-up Weibo post, Digital Chat Station said earlier supply-chain information had already pointed to the China iPhone 18 Pro Max entering the 5,000mAh range. The leaker also suggested that a 5,391mAh battery paired with the rumored 2nm A20 Pro chip could bring a clear battery-life improvement.
That is the part buyers would actually feel. A bigger battery is useful, but the larger question is whether Apple can turn the extra capacity and chip efficiency into longer real-world screen time without adding too much weight.
Apple’s fall lineup could be crowded
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this fall, possibly alongside its first foldable iPhone. The latest battery leak fits that wider premium push: Pro models with bigger batteries, a rumored foldable at the top end, and a more complicated iPhone Ultra and iPhone Air roadmap around them.
For now, the safe read is simple. The iPhone 18 Pro Max may be headed for a meaningful battery increase, while the regular Pro model looks more incremental. Until Apple announces the phones, treat the capacities as credible-looking leak data, not final specifications.
