All iPhone 17 Models Getting the A19 Chip? New Leak Sparks Debate
Apple may equip all iPhone 17 models with the A19 chip, according to analyst Jeff Pu, though conflicting rumors surround the iPhone 17 Air’s final specs.

We are just two months away from the launch of the much-awaited iPhone 17 series, and the rumor mill shows no signs of slowing down. Although the base iPhone 17 model was previously rumored to feature the A18 chip, Apple analyst Jeff Pu now believes it will be powered by the A19 chip. This updated report comes from an investor note shared by Pu through GF Securities.
A19 Chip Expected Across Non-Pro iPhone 17 Models
Pu also believes that the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air (which is expected to replace the Plus model) will come equipped with the A19 chip. Meanwhile, the flagship models—the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—will feature the more powerful A19 Pro chip.
The report aligns with Apple’s ongoing strategy of differentiating its Pro lineup with more advanced chipsets, while still upgrading base models with the latest-generation silicon—an approach the tech giant has followed since the iPhone 15 series.
Conflicting Rumors About iPhone 17 Air’s Chip
Pu’s latest claim introduces some confusion. A previous leak from a Weibo source known as Fixed Focus Digital suggested that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air would feature the A19 Pro chip rather than the standard A19. However, it would be a nerfed version of the A19 Pro, featuring a 5-core GPU compared to the 6-core GPU expected in the Pro and Pro Max models.
What the A19 Means for iPhone 17 Performance
Regardless of the rumors and leaks, nothing is confirmed until the iPhone 17 lineup officially launches, just two months from now. While Pu’s recent report may undercut the iPhone 17 Air’s premium status, it does raise expectations for the performance of the base iPhone 17 model.
A19 Chip Lineup: Taking Shape, But Still Unclear
Jeff Pu’s revised analysis adds some clarity to Apple’s next-gen chipset plans. However, the conflicting reports have also created uncertainty around how Apple will segment the iPhone 17 series, especially with the new iPhone 17 Air. The Air model is rumored to be thinner and more premium than the standard iPhone 17, making the inclusion of the base A19 chip feel like a possible downgrade.
We’ll all have to wait until the official reveal to see which version of the A19 chip ends up in which model of the iPhone 17 lineup.
