Instagram is bringing one of Edits’ most useful creator-focused tools to the main app, making it easier for users to record videos without having to memorize scripts.

The company has started rolling out a built-in teleprompter feature that displays scrolling text while creators record directly within Instagram’s camera.

Instagram is bringing the teleprompter to its main camera

Four smartphone screens show a purple-lit livestream setup with a large red record button; a red arrow points to a side menu option on the first screen.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the update through his Instagram Channel.

According to Mosseri, users can upload a script and have it scroll on-screen while recording videos, helping them stay on message without needing multiple retakes.

Instagram also allows users to adjust the scrolling speed, enabling the teleprompter to match different speaking styles, pacing preferences, and recording formats.

The teleprompter feature first launched in the Edits app in June 2025. It allows creators to upload a script and display it as scrolling text directly within the recording interface.

By bringing the feature into the main Instagram app, creators no longer need to switch between separate apps or workflows when recording scripted content.

Instagram wants to simplify talking-head videos

For many creators, recording talking-head videos often involves memorizing key points, reading from notes positioned off-camera, or repeatedly restarting recordings after missing a line.

The new feature could be especially useful for educational videos, tutorials, product explainers, news updates, presentations, reviews, and other content that relies on structured talking points.

Teleprompter tools have become increasingly common across creator-focused video apps, but until now, Instagram users had to rely on Edits or third-party solutions to achieve a similar experience. Bringing the feature directly into Instagram’s camera removes an extra step from the recording process and streamlines content creation.

The update also reflects Instagram’s ongoing investment in creator tools as competition for short-form video creators continues to intensify across social media platforms.

I can see this becoming one of Instagram’s most useful creator features. Recording scripted videos on a phone can often feel awkward, and switching between Instagram and a separate teleprompter app only adds friction to the workflow. Integrating the tool directly into the camera feels like a practical improvement that could save creators time, particularly those producing educational content, tutorials, product reviews, and news-style videos.
