How to Screenshot on Snapchat Without Them Knowing [2020]

Snapchat is one of the largest social apps on the planet. The messaging app lets users share quick ephemeral snaps with friends, family, and followers. Now, the only way to save a snap/story on Snapchat is to take a screenshot of it.

However, if you do take a screenshot, then you should remember that Snapchat will notify the sender. They will receive a message saying that you’ve taken a screenshot. This can be a problem if you don’t want the other person to know that you’re saving their photos. Not to worry though, as we will show you three methods to take a screenshot on Snapchat without them knowing on iPhone.

Turn on Airplane Mode on iPhone

The easiest way to screenshot Snapchat on iPhone is simply launching the app, wait for the snap to load, and then enable Airplane mode. Now, you can open the snap-in Airplane mode and take a screenshot. However, this doesn’t always work. Here’s how you can do this.

Launch Snapchat on your iOS device and Swipe over the page with the Snaps and Stories. Wait for a couple of seconds for them to load.

Launch Snapchat and Tap on Discover to Open Snaps and Stories on iPhone

Now, swipe up from the bottom to reveal the Control Centre and tap on the Airplane mode button. This button is denoted by an airplane.

Go back to Snapchat and view the snap/story. It should load the image and you can now take a screenshot. Since there is no data or Wi-Fi connection, Snapchat will not be able to notify the other person that you’ve taken a screenshot.

Use Screen Recorder on iPhone

You can use the in-built screen recorder feature on your iOS device to record the snap. This doesn’t qualify as a screenshot, but you will still be able to view the image or story whenever you like.

Open Snapchat and head over to the Snap or Stories page.

Launch Snapchat and Tap on Discover to Open Snaps and Stories on iPhone

Swipe up from the bottom to bring up the Control Centre. The screen recorder button will be available here.

Start Screen Recorder in iPhone Control Center

If you can’t see the option, then you will have to add the button.

Launch the Settings app and scroll down to Control Centre.

Tap on Control Center in iPhone Settings

Here, tap on Customise Controls and then add the Screen Recorder option by tapping on the ‘+’ button.

Add Screen Recorder in Control Center on iPhone

Now you can start recording the screen on your iOS device and then view the Snapchat story or snap.

Use QuickTime on Mac

Connect your phone to Mac and open QuickTime Player on it. Next, click on File → New Movie Recording. Click on the small arrow next to the white-red record button.

For camera and microphone input, select your iPhone. You will see your phone screen on Mac. Finally, begin screen recording of iPhone on Mac, and start viewing the snaps.

If you need more help, please follow this step-by-step article that shows you the above instructions in detail.

In case you do not want to make video recordings of the snaps, but only want snaps you want to save, follow the initial steps, and instead of screen recording, press Command + Shift + 4 on your Mac. Next, press the Space Bar and take a screenshot of the QuickTime window.

Use Another Phone to Record

If you have a spare phone lying around, then you can use it to record the snap or take a picture of it. Simply start viewing the Snapchat story or snap on your iOS smartphone and then use the other phone’s camera to take a picture. For videos, you can use the other device to record a video.

That’s it!

Snapchat doesn’t officially allow you to take screenshots without notifying the sender. If you do want to secretly take screenshots on Snapchat, then you will have to use the methods described above. We would suggest that you use the screen recorder feature or the Airplane mode method. The screenshots will be available in the Photos app on your iOS device and can be viewed whenever you like.
