It is a tradition for Epic Games to close out an ongoing Fortnite season with a bang. To that end, the devs organize a live event near the end of a season every time, after which the game transitions into the next one. The most recently announced live event, Fortnite Unstable, is scheduled to take place on August 15 at 2 PM ET, setting the stage for Chapter 7 Season 4.
On August 8, Fortnite first announced the forthcoming live event and added a timer for the same within the online game. Fast forward to August 13, the devs’ plans for the final week leading up to the next seasonal update coming with Fortnite Override were also revealed, incentivizing fans to partake in the action surrounding the season finale.
What is Fortnite Unstable?
Unstable is the next “story moment” in Fortnite that will act as the narrative bridge between the Runners season and the Override season. This event is also expected to herald changes to the Battle Royale map, which should fully come into effect once the new season rolls out next week on Thursday.
Epic Games’s official description for the event states that “something … or someone powerful is changing the game” and that “the future of the island hangs in the balance.” This strongly implies that we could see a cinematic sequence that reveals the actor behind the speculated impending changes coming to Chapter 7 Season 3’s Shattered Coast map.
At the same time when Fortnite Unstable begins, Mythic Hours are also scheduled to commence, making items such as Zero Point Sprite and Grim Sprite spawn more often. Importantly, the live event also acts as the starting point for a five-day stretch, called the Sprite Spree Week, which will allow players to make a final push for completing their Fortnite sprite collection before Chapter 7 Season 3 comes to a close.
Fortnite Unstable event date & time
The Unstable story moment will kick off in Fortnite on Saturday, August 15 at 11 AM PT or 2 PM ET. If you absolutely don’t want to miss out on this event, it is best to update your game beforehand and log in to Fortnite at least 5-10 minutes in advance to avoid any potential last-minute issues.
According to Egyptian Fortnite Leaker, a Fortnite informant on X with a growing follower base, Fortnite Unstable will show one character go through a speech that consists of 22 to 24 voice lines. The source also speculated that the live event could be a very short one, just lasting 2 to 3 minutes in total.

Final note
Live events tend to be a fairly memorable experience for Fortnite players. In the past, such events have also significantly changed the game before a major content drop, such as in the case of The End live event in December 2021.
While Fortnite Unstable is understandably not expected to be on the same massive scale as some of the past live events, it will still play a crucial role in tying up loose ends in the Fortnite lore. Notably, the Sprite Spree Week, which follows right after, will also be worth checking out next week, given it is tailored around those who are dedicated to indulging in this season’s Pokemon-esque sprite hunt.
